The brother of 70-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Lou Zhenkang received a letter from the Zhejiang No. 2 Prison in February 2014, saying that Mr. Lou was sentenced to three years and has been taken to the prison on January 24th, 2014.
Prior to this, his family had received no information about him for the past one and a half years while he was being held at the Jinhua Detention Centre since his arrest in August 2012.
Mr. Lou's family went to the prison to visit him recently. Only his brother was allowed to see him briefly while the guard was monitoring. The family was not permitted to give Mr. Lou any clothing or food items.
Mr. Lou's brother also received a letter from him on February 12th, which indicated that he is suffering physical symptoms in the prison.
Arrested and Harassed Since 1999
Mr. Lou began practising Falun Gong in 1998. He was frequently harassed and arrested since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) initiated the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999. He was arrested in October 2003, and was taken to the Shimen Farm Brainwashing Centre for about 20 days.
Mr. Lou was taken to the Jinhua Brainwashing Centre in 2006 because he distributed Falun Gong books. After he was released, he was laid off from work and constantly harassed by the officials from the local 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong).
Mr. Lou was forced to leave home in May 2011 in order to avoid being taken to a brainwashing centre.
