Dr. Chen Mingsai has been held in solitary confinement in a dungeon in Duyun Prison for more than a year and a half. There is much concern regarding his current condition.
Persecuted repeatedly for his belief in Falun Gong, Dr. Chen was arrested most recently on April 12th, 2012, and his home was ransacked yet again. Involved in the arrest were police officers Zhan Guangfu, Lu Ruiyou and Lu Wenli. After he was held in a detention centre for over six months, he was sentenced to prison for three and a half years on December 17th, 2012.
This is the second time he has been sent to Duyun Prison. Six other Falun Gong practitioners were arrested at the same time. Among them, Ms. Zheng Weichao, 71, and her daughter, Chen Rong, both were sentenced to three and half years in prison.
The first time Dr. Chen was sent to the Duyun Prison was in 2007. He endured solitary confinement, brainwashing, forced labour, and other forms of torture. He was in critical condition when he was released during the 2010 New Year holiday.
Prior Persecution
Dr. Chen Mingsai, 57, was an attending physician at Shanjiaoshukuang Hospital in Liupanshui City, Guizhou Province. He began to practise Falun Gong in 1997. Even though he is a physician, he himself had incurable illnesses. However, after he began to practise Falun Gong, his illness symptoms completely disappeared and he looked younger than before.
When the persecution began, Dr. Chen went to Beijing twice to appeal for Falun Gong in 2000. He wanted the government to know the facts about Falun Gong. He was arrested by Lu Ruiyou and Lu Wenli from Shanjiaoshu Police Department and escorted back to Pang County Detention Centre. Twenty inmates were instigated to take turns beating him. Later Dr. Chen was sentenced to three years in Zhongba Forced Labour Camp.
Police officers Zhan Guangfu, Lu Ruiyou, and Lu Wenli raided Dr. Chen's home five times and took a computer, speaker, informational materials, and thousands of yuan.
Duyun Prison Brutally Tortures Falun Gong Practitioners
Duyun Prison is notorious for its brutality. Practitioners are tortured with the death bed, solitary confinement, savage beatings, kneeling for extended periods of time, electric baton shocking, being doused with boiling water, cigarette burns, strong bright light beamed into the eyes, exposure during frigid weather, sleep deprivation for months at a time, deprivation of toilet use, forced-feeding, intense forced labour for long hours, and having unknown drugs mixed in their food. Ma Tianjun, Hu Dali, and Wu Potong are among the practitioners who lost their lives in Duyun Prison.
