A Chongqing woman was arrested on January 17th of this year for practising Falun Gong, a self-cultivation system being persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party.
Agents at Luoqi Police Station twisted Ms. Zou Hualan's arms behind her back and cuffed her hands. Chen Yu rolled up some newspapers to strike her face, while another officer surnamed Yang punched her in the temples and at the top of her head. She was knocked unconscious by the assault.
Ms. Zou still had visible bruises and marks on her head and around her eyes when she was transferred to Yubei District Detention Centre six days later. During the admission process, she demanded the detention centre guards and the prosecutor-in-residence there examine her injury. She also filed a complaint to the prosecutor.
Not long afterwards, the Beijing lawyer that her family hired also submitted complaints to various agencies, including Chongqing City Police Department, Yubei District Police Office, Chongqing City Procuratorate, and Yubei District Procuratorate. They requested the two officers be prosecuted and punished for police brutality.
