Every afternoon, this woman usually draws water from a well. Whenever she lifts or lowers the bucket, she sees shining golden words, as big as her fist, arranged harmoniously around the well. (She is illiterate.) The water is always clean and cool.
In June 2001, when her nephew, a retired military policeman, came to visit her, the water in the well came up dirty, smelled bad, and was undrinkable. Assuming that the dirt at the bottom of the well had polluted the water, they pumped in lots of water to clean it up, but it didn't work, so they had to fetch water from a neighbor's house.
However, the well became refreshing and clean again as soon as her nephew left in the afternoon. The whole family thought that this was very strange.
Within a month, the woman's nephew came to visit her house again. The well water was foul smelling and muddy again. During dinner her nephew urged her to stop practicing Falun Gong. With animosity towards Falun Gong in his words, he boasted about how he had burned lots of Falun Gong books, beaten many practitioners and struck practitioners with the butt of his rifle when he was a military policeman in Beijing during the persecution of Falun Gong.
The woman told her nephew, "I used to be ill quite often, but I have completely recovered after practicing Falun Gong. I am a living example of the goodness of Falun Gong."
But this retired military policeman refused to take his aunt's advice. Whenever he comes to visit his aunt, the well becomes foul. But once he leaves, the well water becomes clean automatically.
