Honourable Bill Graham, PC MP
Minister of Foreign Affairs

House of Commons
Ottawa, On K1A 0A6

Dear Bill,

I was recently contacted by Grace Wollensak, of the Falun Dafa Association of Canada. She is concerned about the continuing persecution and imprisonment of Falun Dafa practitioners in China. I support the concerns raised by Ms Wollensak and ask that you provide a response on this matter.

The former leader of China, Jiang Zemin, led a campaign of persecution against practitioners by using the tools of the state, such as the National Security Bureau, the court justice system, forced labour camps, mental institutions and the state controlled media. This persecution is still being continued under the new leader Hu Jintao, and an estimated 100,000 people are imprisoned for being part of the Falun Gong movement. Of these 100,000 fourteen have Canadian ties.

Canada must raise its voice to condemn these and other abuses of human rights as they occur in China, regardless of the economic or political interests that the Chinese government may threaten to leverage against us in retaliation. We must also notify the Chinese authorities that we are watching closely, and that Canada will continue to condemn that government's unjustifiable repression of peaceful practitioners of Falun Gong and other persecuted minorities and assist the victims however possible.

I look forward to your earliest possible reply on this important matter.

Sincerely yours,

Svend J Robinson, MP
Burnaby-Douglas
