Female practitioner Ma Yuhuang was arrested in Tianjin on her way to appealing in Beijing. She received various maltreatments and tortures while in police custody. She was later transferred to the detention center of Shuangcheng City for half a month before being released. The local police then extorted money from her to pay for their trip to Beijing.
On January 17, 2001, policeman Ma Dali from Yuejin County, Party Secretary Zhang Junbao, and the head of the village Liu Changlong lured practitioner Ma Chengbao to a room at the Party Committee Office of the village under the pretense of "having a talk" and detained him there. His 7-year-old child was left alone at home. There were three other practitioners held along with Ma Chengbao.
Wang Yuling went to appeal in Beijing on December 16, 2000. She was arrested and held in the police department in Fangshan, Beijing. When she was finally released and sent back home, the local policemen pressured her family to pay for their trip to Beijing, but her family refused.
Female practitioner Bai Shuhua was arrested on December 23, 2000 when she validated Dafa in Tiananmen Square. She was held in the detention center of Shuangcheng City for 15 days. The local officials extorted 1700 Yuan from her to pay for their trip to Beijing.
Female practitioner Xu Dezhen went to visit the State Office of Appeals in Beijing in 2000. She was arrested and sent to the office of the local government of Heilongjiang Province in Beijing. Later she was transferred to the detention center of Shuangcheng City and held there for over 20 days. She suffered great mental torture. Her husband Yan Wenbao went to Beijing to validate Dafa on December 10, 2000. He was arrested near Tiananmen Square and transferred to the detention center of Shuangcheng City, where he was detained for 29 days. He received beatings there nearly everyday. After he was released, the officials of the county, the local police station, and the village visited his home many times to apply pressure. They extorted 3800 Yuan from the couple in cash. In addition, the village officials recorded in the village accounting book that they owed the village 1000 Yuan.
Because Xu Chunlin and Guo Longqun did not have the money required by the village officials to cover their trip to Beijing, the Secretary of the Village Party Committee Branch sold their farmland in March 2000, cutting off their livelihood. The four family members of Xu have left home to look for a living elsewhere.
Xu Qiulin was arrested for distributing truth-clarifying literature in the spring of 2000. He has been held in the Changlinzi Labor Camp in Harbin since then. His wife is living in poverty as a result.

Xu's eldest sister was held in the detention center of Shuangcheng City for 22 days for appealing in Beijing. After her release, she was detained in the local nursing home. The local officials demanded 5000 Yuan to pay for their trip to Beijing. Because her family did not have the money, they held her husband in the local government office for two days. Her husband was finally released when they turned in the deed for their house as collateral. She was held again in the nursing home for two months on December 23, 2000. Because she refused to sign a pledge to give up practicing, she was detained in a brainwashing class in the Party School in Shuangcheng City. She was released only after her family signed it for her.
Her second eldest sister was taken to the local nursing home on December 23, 2000 and held there for over two months. Her family had to turn in 500 Yuan to bail her out.
Her third eldest sister was detained for 15 days for appealing in Beijing. The local government extorted 3000 Yuan from her to pay for their trip to take her back from Beijing. She was detained in the party committee of the village for 18 days during the Chinese New Year period in 2001. She was released after paying 1000 Yuan.
The fourth sister was detained for over 40 days when she first went to Beijing to appeal. She held a hunger strike and was sent back home. However, she was held in the local nursing home for another 20 days. The second time she went to Beijing, she was detained for over half a month and sentenced to one year in labor camp. She is now detained in Wanjia Labor Camp in Harbin City. Her families are being denied visitation because she refuses to sign a letter of repentance.
Female practitioner Xu Shurong went to appeal in Beijing with her 4-year-old child in June 2000. She was taken back and detained in a cold, damp room in the local nursing home. She was released after holding a hunger strike.
