  • 15,235 Falun Gong Practitioners Targeted for Their Faith in 2020

    While China was hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, its ruling party, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), has continued its persecution of Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline also known as Falun Dafa that is based on the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance.
  • 245 Falun Gong Practitioners Arrested in March 2019

    According to information collected by Minghui.org, the month of March 2019 recorded 245 cases of Falun Gong practitioners arrested and another 162 harassed in China for refusing to renounce their faith.
  • Police Extort Funds from Practitioners' Families

    The Shenzhou police recently arrested two practitioners, Ms. Xue Xuewen, 69, and Ms. Meng Lingshang, 59, and extorted funds from the practitioners' families, threatening that the women would be sentenced if money didn't change hands. The two women were taken to the Hengshui Detention Centre. After several rounds of negotiation, Ms. Xie's family paid about 10,000 yuan to have her released. She was let go on August 8th. Although Ms. Meng's family reportedly paid several thousand yuan, the police said it wasn't enough, so they didn't release her.
  • Fushun City Police Ransack and Rob Practitioners' Homes

    On April 15th, 2012, police arrested more than a dozen practitioners in Xinbin County, ransacked their homes and confiscated their personal belongings. Mr. Mu Guodong and his wife, Ms. Yu Haiyan, were arrested by over 10 officers from the Fushun City Domestic Security Division at 6 a.m. that same day. Their home was also ransacked. The police confiscated their computer, a mobile phone, 8,000 yuan cash, and a bank savings book with a balance of 30,000 yuan.
  • Chaoyang Police Arrest Family Members of Falun Gong Practitioners

    Zhao Qiang, Chief of the Chaoyang County Domestic Security Division, arrested Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Han Minglan's husband, son and daughter-in-law. In order to collect more extortion money, he also arrested several relatives of Ms. Han. They took away 14 people in total. Zhao Qiang collected a large amount of money from Ms. Han's family. Ms. Han was forced to become homeless to avoid further persecution.
  • Sun Jianfei and Other Police Officers from Suihua, Heilongjiang Province, Use Extortion to Persecute Falun Gong Practitioners

    Sun Jianfei was head of the Chunlei Police Station in the Beilin District of Suihua City, Heilongjiang Province. He was transferred to the Beilin Police Department this year, in charge of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. He spared no effort to cooperate with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in persecuting those good people who believe in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Sun Jianfei and other agents from the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) monitor, follow, and extort money from Falun Gong practitioners.
  • Woman in Her 60's Arrested and Brainwashed, Authorities Extort Money from Her

    On June 27th, Ms. Xu Jianxin was arrested at home by 610 Office agents (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) in Shandong's Weifang City and taken to the "Rule of Law Training Centre," actually a brainwashing centre. There, as with many other practitioners in the brainwashing centre, she had a large amount of money extorted from her. Ms. Xu Jianxin conducts herself according to the principles Falun Gong, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. After the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, even though Ms. Xu is far from wealthy, she donated to the earthquake-hit region. Yet such a good person is being persecuted.
  • Persecution at the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre in Chengdu

    Xinjin Brainwashing Centre is not only a place for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to detain persecuted Falun Gong practitioners, but also a place for the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), National Security, and Domestic Security to extort money. A person familiar with the situation said that every time a Falun Gong practitioner is detained, the brainwashing centre demands 10,000 yuan from its supervisor organisation for its expenses. Where does this funding come from? First, government funding. Second, robbing of Falun Gong practitioners' personal assets. Third, extortion from Falun Gong practitioners' workplaces. Fourth, fund-raising by the neighbourhood associations.
  • Yiyuan County Officers Arrest and Extort Money from Practitioners

    Ms. Jiao Fangyu and Ms. Zhang Xiaorong and Ms. Li Zaihua were arrested while speaking with people about Falun Gong in Yiyuan County on May 16th. The police extorted about 100,000 yuan in value and belongings from Ms. Zhang, and extorted 30,000 yuan in cash from Ms. Li. Ms. Jiao was given a term of one and a half years of forced labour and taken to the Wangcun Forced Labour Camp in Zibo City.
  • Ms. Cheng Liyun Tortured and the Victim of Extortion by Acheng District Police in Harbin

    Since 1999, Ms. Cheng Liyun has been arrested multiple times, as well as been the victim of extortion by Acheng District and Harbin officials. She has been detained at the Acheng District 2nd Detention Centre, Songfengshan Police Station, Acheng District Police Bureau, and Harbin 2nd Women's Detention Centre. Her family has been anguished because she has been persecuted. Her husband could not bear it anymore and petitioned for a divorce at the Acheng District Court on August 9th, 2008, and again in May 2010.
  • Ms. Gao Shuqin from Shuangcheng City, Heilongjiang Province Recounts Years of Persecution

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Gao Shuqin was a teacher in Wujia Town, Shuangcheng City, Heilongjiang Province. She went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in late 2000 and has been suspended from work ever since. Her daughter is in high school and her family is living under tremendous political and financial pressure. After the persecution began on July 20th, 1999, officers from the Shuangcheng City Police Department held Ms. Gao at the No. 2 Detention Centre twice, for a total of 79 days, and extorted 20,700 yuan from her. She was also held at a brainwashing facility twice and Wujia Town government officials extorted 2,100 yuan from her.
  • Jilin Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Members Arrest and Steal from Citizens During the “Two Conferences” Period

    Chinese Communist Party (CCP) members in Jilin escalated their persecution of Falun Gong practitioners during the “Two Conferences” (The National People's Congress Conference and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference). The increased persecution targeted practitioners following the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Authorities set out to deliberately create an atmosphere of terror. CCP members from the street committees, police stations, and other offices in Jilin broke into practitioners’ homes. They harassed, threatened, and arrested practitioners, then ransacked their homes.
  • Mengyin County 610 Office in Shandong Province Withholds Falun Gong Practitioners' Salaries and Pensions

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Gong Weisen, 72, is a retiree of the Mengyin Land and Resources Bureau. In 2000, the Mengyin 610 Office staff [an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong] and policemen ransacked his home. They found a Falun Gong book and fined him 5,000 yuan. Shortly after, the 610 Office took away his pension from the Mengyin Pension Insurance Bureau starting in January 2001, leaving Mr. Gong with no money at all for the past ten years. The total amount taken away from Mr. Gong is 230,000 yuan. Mr. Gong has had to live on support from his children and relatives.
  • Officials Repeatedly Extort Money from a Disabled Army Veteran during His Daughter's Imprisonment

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Qi Lei, 30, is a teacher in Shandong Province. On February 23rd, 2010, she was arrested by police outside the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) school as she was talking with people about Falun Gong and how the Chinese Communist Party has slandered Falun Gong. After Ms. Qi was taken to the Linyi City Detention Centre the officials started to intimidate, deceive and extort money from her family. Ms. Qi's father is a disabled army veteran, confined to a wheelchair, and needs to be cared for. 610 Office officials (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and the Domestic Security Bureau extorted 16,000 yuan from her parents.
  • Chenzui Village Police Officers in Tianjin Arrest and Extort Money from Practitioners

    Villager Li Guosheng falsely accused a male practitioner from the same village of burning an antithetical couplet [two lines of poetry traditionally placed on the doors of people's homes] on March 15th, 2007. The practitioner, who had just begun practising Falun Gong, learned of Li's accusation and asked another practitioner, Ms. Huang Xixiu, to go with him to explain the facts about Falun Gong to Li. When they arrived at Li's home, only his daughter-in-law was there. The two practitioners told her of their visit and explained, "Falun Gong practitioners cultivate Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance and would definitely do no such thing." Li Guosheng's daughter-in-law became irrational and called Li. Li returned home and told the practitioners, "I reported you to the authorities." Police arrested Ms. Huang the next day, ransacked her home, and extorted money from Ms. Huang.
