In December 2000, Mudanjiang City Normal University logistic staff member Wang Jiguo was illegally detained at a forced labour camp. He had been tortured so severely that his entire body was swollen. He suffered from blurry vision and severe liver damage. Wang wasn't released until September 2001. In July 2002, Wang was detained at the detention centre again, and after that, he was sentenced to 7-year prison term at Mudanjiang City Jianshanzi Prison. Between June and July 2003, Wang was tortured until he was again on the verge of death. Later on he was released, as the authorities were afraid of taking responsibility should he die in jail. In September Wang died at the age of 40, while serving a 7-year prison sentence, as a result of the torture he received for not renouncing his belief in Falun Dafa.

In March 2000, Mr. Wang and his wife Chen Fei brought their 4-year-old son with them to Beijing to exercise their constitutional right to appeal to the government on behalf of Falun Dafa. At the entrance of the Appeal Bureau, they were stopped by the authorities and forced to return home . After they were forced to return, the couple was detained at the Mudanjiang No.2 Detention Centre. Chen was bailed out by her relatives after having 5000 yuan extorted from them in the form of an illegal fine [the average monthly income for a Chinese worker is about 500 yuan]. Wang was sentenced to 3 years in a forced labour camp.

In June and July, Mr. Wang was subjected to torture at the Mudanjiang Sidao Forced Labour Camp. He showed signs of being seriously ill, so he was bailed out for medical treatment.

In December, because truth-clarifying material appeared in large quantities outside of the main building of the Mudanjiang Normal University, Shi Hongtao of the Public Relations Department in Mudanjiang Normal University, Yang Dajun and others contacted the forced labour camp and deceived Wang into coming to talk with them so that they could detain him again. After being detained and subjected to abuse, Wang's whole body was swollen. He suffered from blurry vision and liver damage.

He was not released until September 2001. In January 2002, Wang went missing. His relatives tried all means to locate his whereabouts from the authorities. Finally they learned he had been detained at the detention centre again. Later he was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment and detained at the Mudanjiang Jianshanzi Jail.

Between June and July 2003, Wang Jiguo was on the verge of death. The jail agreed to let his family visit him and went through the procedure of preparing a medical parole, as they were afraid of taking responsibility for his death if he should die in the labour camp. After that, the authorities attempted to extort money and assets from Wang's family. Failing to get anything from the family, the authorities would not release Wang for several days before they finally relented. In September, Wang died as a result of the torture he received while in detention, at the age of 40.

In April 2002, the Mudanjiang Xingping Police Station ransacked the home of Chen Fei, and she was sentenced to 3 years in a forced labour camp. Currently she is being held at the Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Centre. Her 7-year-old son is left at home all by himself. Since Wang's parents are in their 80's, the child is being taken care of by his maternal grandmother. A happy family was ruined because of Jiang's persecution policy against Falun Dafa. Before Wang Jiguo's death, he was widely known as a kind and generous person. Before the persecution against Falun Dafa began, Wang Jiguo was very healthy. Under the persecution of the labour camp and the jail, he was devastated both physically and mentally. Mr. Wang didn't even have a chance to reunite with his family before he passed away.
