82-year-old Former Sichuan Province Doctor Mr. Yang Yongshou Dies from Mental and Physical Pressure

For firmly refusing to give up his faith in Falun Dafa, Senior Doctor Yang Yongshou from Nanchong City, Sichuan Province was troubled multiple times by the government's suppression of Falun Dafa. At the end of September 2002, perpetrators from the Yingshan County "610 Office" (1) put Doctor Yang under close surveillance, and withheld his salary. He died while in their custody and as a direct result of the persecution in December 2003.

Dr. Yang Yongshou was an 82-year-old man. He was a medical doctor in the army at the battalion level. After the Ya-an Uprising in December 1949, he retired from the army, and was assigned a job as Hospital Director in the Forestry Hospital in Yingshan County. He retired in 1985 from the hospital. Later on, he saw patients and ran an herbal shop.

Mr. Yang Yongshou started practising Falun Dafa in February 1995. However after the suppression of Falun Gong began he was arrested and detained several times.

On September 30, 2002, perpetrators from the Yingshan County "610 Office" ordered that Dr. Yang's be moved from living in the county's most developed area to the Central Hospital in Lushui Town, Yingshan County. Here, he was to be put under close monitoring; he was not allowed to walk around freely; he was not allowed to contact others; they withheld all of his retirement pension; and they only paid him 300 yuan a month as a basic living cost. They saw Dr. Yang become very weak, but he still refused to give up his faith. Then they stopped paying his living cost for two months. Under both mental and physical pressure, he died on December 10, 2003 in the hospital. No one took care of his body until three days after he died.
