Ms. Du Yuqing was a 40-year-old farmer from Chongyang Town, Chongzhou City, Sichuan Province. She started to practise Falun Gong in 1998. The police arrested her and ransacked her home in 2003 because she clarified the facts of Falun Gong to the public. They also threatened her family, causing a great mental burden on her husband, who passed away not long after. Their son was left behind with no one to take care of him.
While in detention, Ms. Du suffered inhumane torture. Policeman Zhang Tiantian from Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, together with Chongzhou police beat her savagely, attempting to get her to tell them where she got her truth-clarification materials. Later they sent her to a government-affiliated hotel where they continued to torture her. They did not allow her to sleep. In May 2003, seeing she was dying, the police released her. After she returned home, she could not move from her bed, nor could she eat any food. She often passed blood in her urine and stool. After several months of suffering, she passed away around February 24, 2004. At present, the Chongzhou police department and government are trying to cover up their crimes.
