On November 16, 2003, the detention centre of Dehui City, Jilin Province, started another round of torturing Dafa practitioner Mr. Sun Qian. Mr. Sun had been on hunger strike for a month and was unable to walk. The authorities tied Mr. Sun to the bed board for over 20 days, causing his muscles to atrophy below his waist.
At round 9:00 a.m. on November 16, 2003, policemen Du and Pan handcuffed both of Mr. Sun's hands and dragged him from the clinic on 2nd floor to cell #106 on the 1st floor. They injured his left shoulder joint and damaged his lower back and shoulder muscles.
When he was dragged down the stairs, two inmates tried to lift his two feet off the ground to reduce the impact, but the two policemen stopped them.
In cell #106, the two policemen handcuffed both of Mr. Sun's hands to the steel rings on the bed board and shackled his two feet. Then, they tied his feet to the steel rods under the bed so that his four limbs were spread out to keep him from moving.
Mr. Sun was forced in such a position for 48 hours in unbearable pain from the torture.
On the morning of November 18, Mr. Sun was force-fed and the torture instruments were taken off. On the afternoon of November 20, he protested the persecution he received and was then tied to the bed board the same way as above. A plastic tube was inserted into his nose for force-feeding. The rope tying his shackles to the bed were not taken off until three days later. His handcuffs were not taken off until 20 days later. During that period, Mr. Sun had to relieve himself in the bed since he was handcuffed. His shackles were not taken off until 30 days later. By then, his muscles below the waist had atrophied and he temporarily lost the use of his limbs.
Mr. Sun Qian was later held in Jilin Prison. The prison was afraid of being responsible for his deteriorating health as his condition became critical. They carried him back to the detention centre but the Changchun City Intermediate People's Court Issued an order to "forcibly put in him in jail". Thus, he was carried back to the Jilin Prison. It's said that he received more brutal persecution there.
Cell #106 and #107 both have steel rings welded on the bed boards that are specifically used to torture the detainees. Each cell comes equipped with devices to confine three prisoners inside.
