At the beginning of this year, they began to torture the practitioners mentally as well. They held "re-education classes" to forcibly brainwash practitioners. They earned 70 Yuan when they successfully made a practitioner give up practising. This bonus was increased to 250 Yuan at the end of this fall. When a practitioner had to be released because his or her condition became serious from being tortured, they would also extort at least 1,000 Yuan from the family of that practitioner. In this way, they brought considerable income to the labour camp. In addition, the practitioners' friends and relatives were not allowed to bring any daily necessities to give to them when they came to visit. The practitioners were forced to buy them from the labour camp, where the prices were inflated to be 3 times higher than normal prices.
