Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Dabi was 60 years old and lived in Chongqing City. She suffered inhuman abuses in a local detention centre and in the Maojiashan Women's Forced Labour Camp. Ms. Zhang passed away in August 2002 at a hospital in Chengdu City.
Ms. Zhang Dabi lived at the Motor Company residential area in Chongqing City. She lost her parents when she was a child and her older brother raised her. She had been in poor health ever since she was young and later suffered from breast cancer. When Ms. Zhang started practising Falun Gong in 1997, her health improved dramatically and the cancer disappeared within three months.
In July 1999, dictator Jiang Zemin and his followers began the brutal persecution against Falun Gong and slandered Dafa. Ms. Zhang was arrested in the beginning of 2002 for appealing on behalf of Falun Gong. Local police officer took her to the police station and interrogated her, during which time they subjected Ms. Zhang to torture. Later, police searched her home looking for Falun Dafa materials or information on other practitioners, but did not find anything.
Ms. Zhang was sentenced to one year of forced labour. Authorities at the Chongqing Women's Forced Labour Camp subjected her to physical torture and mental torment. Her health deteriorated quickly. Hospital treatment in Chengdu City failed to save her. One of her family members took her back to hometown in Wangu, and she passed away shortly afterwards in August 2002.
