Ms. Xu Xiuzhi, the former workshop director at the Huabei Automobile Plant. |
The following is Ms. Xu Xiuzhi's story:
Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Xu Xiuzhi from Gaobeidian City in the Baoding region of Hebei Province was 49 years old. As a result of the persecution, in July 2004 she became paralyzed in her lower body, and passed away on August 8.
Ms. Xu began practising Falun Dafa in 1995 and had gone to Beijing twice to appeal for Falun Gong, on April 25 and July 21, 1999. She was detained both times.
In July 2000, Xu Xiuzhi was abducted and taken to a brainwashing class when she went to appeal at the local appeals office, and was later sentenced to forced labour. She was detained at Balizhuang Forced Labour Camp in Baoding City. During her detention, Xu Xiuzhi's lower body became paralyzed from torture. Later on she regained her ability to move her lower body.
In December 2000, Cui Qihui, the Party Secretary for Gaobeidian City once said at a general assembly of all police personnel in the city, "If you cannot break a leg of a Falun Gong practitioner, you will not be regarded as a good police officer."
In April 2002, Xu Xiuzhi was released from the labour camp, and at the end of August she left home in to avoid further persecution. She was again arrested by the police in July 2003 and was sent to a brainwashing class. In July 2004, her lower body became paralyzed again as a result of the abuse and torture. Ms. Xu Xiuzhi passed away on August 8, 2004.
The Gaobeidian City police department's 610 Office has used the persecution of Falun Gong as an excuse to run many brainwashing classes, in order to accumulate wealth by illegal means. From 1999 to 2003, more than a hundred Falun Gong practitioners were forced into such brainwashing classes. The 610 Office not only imposed cruel physical torture and mental torment on practitioners, they also extorted money from their families, in amounts ranging from three or five thousand yuan to ten or twenty thousand yuan. If the families failed to pay the extortion fees, the practitioners would be sentenced to prison terms or sent to forced labour camps.
