Practitioner Ms. Gan Xiuyun, 71, from Heilongjiang Province Died Due to Police Harassment

Ms. Gan Xiuyun was 71 years old. She was a Falun Dafa practitioner who lived in Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province. She started practising Falun Dafa in 1998 and all her sicknesses were eliminated. After the year 2000, the local police repeatedly harassed her. Her daughter was also detained. In 2001, her daughter and son-in-law went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa. Both were arrested and sentenced to forced labour. This caused Ms. Gan great distress, and from then on she lived in terror and suffered from constant mental anguish. She died on January 27, 2004 after suffering unrelenting pressure and harassment.

From July 20, 1999 to the year 2003, former Fulaerji District Police Station Director Li Fenglin instructed police from each substation to ruthlessly mistreat Falun Dafa practitioners whenever they had the opportunity. Police arrested more than 100 Falun Dafa practitioners, even some who were over 70 years old. Besides being detained, several dozen practitioners were sentenced to forced labour camps or prison. These people viciously tortured the practitioners using unspeakable cruelty.
