On July 9, 2003, Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Huang Liping, from Wuhan City, Hubei Province, was arrested by police for continuing in her cultivation practice. She was taken to the Dongsihu Women's Detention Centre in Wuhan City, where she was savagely tortured. The guards injured her throat cartilage and vocal cords during a brutal forced-feeding. Ms. Huang aspirated food into one of her lungs, causing violent coughing. Within a week, she was sent to a hospital for emergency treatment. She was later transferred to the Hewan Forced Labour Camp in Wuhan City and was given injections for her chronic cough. Three months later Ms. Huang was released on medical parole, and was again sent to a hospital. An X-ray revealed necrosis of all but a ping-pong ball-sized part of her lung. She often choked on food. In the following year, Huang Liping gradually developed fibrosis of that lung and her voice became hoarse.
After she left the labour camp, Huang Liping told people the truth about Falun Dafa and helped people learn how Falun Dafa practitioners are being persecuted. She was forced to leave her home to avoid additional persecution, and she lived a precarious existence. However, Huang Liping never wavered in her belief in Dafa. The major parts of her lungs became web-like, covered with dead tissue, and she could not drink fluids or eat normally. Ms. Huang passed away on May 4, 2005.
