To celebrate the United States' Independence Day, Saipan holds an annual parade on July 4th. Saipan Falun Gong practitioners have participated in this parade for four consecutive years.

The practitioners' procession this year featured a waist-drum troupe and a troupe of dancers in Tang Dynasty costume, who won warm applause from the audience.

Around 8 a.m., both sides of Seacoast Avenue were already packed with residents waiting to see the parade. The parade is indeed the largest event in Saipan. Though its population is only about 80 to 90 thousand, Saipan has residents from more than 10 countries or ethnic groups who bring the island its colourful cultural diversity.

Saipan has about 20,000 Chinese, and two Chinese groups, including the Falun Gong, obtained permission to participate in this parade

During this event, Saipan practitioners received a lot of support from Japanese practitioners, who not only sent people to the parade but also brought waist-drums. Japanese practitioners also volunteered to teach Saipan practitioners how to play the waist-drums.
