At the beginning of August, a nationwide anti-torture exhibition held by Spanish Falun Gong practitioners was held in the old city of Toledo. Toledo TV Station gave live coverage to the anti-torture exhibition and a detailed report of Falun Gong practitioners’ experiences. As the first established TV station in Spain, Toledo TV Station is one of the most influential in the country. The following is a report by Toledo TV Station:
Dear viewers, our report is about to introduce to you a Chinese cultivation method called Falun Gong a cultivation method beneficial to your mind and body. But Falun Gong practitioners are being persecuted and tortured in China. Today we are going to approach the cultivation method from several angles to see what it is and what benefits it will bring to you.
On the TV screen appeared the words, “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance” and “Falun Gong” accompanied by the music of “Pudu”.
At present, Falun Gong is receiving two extremely opposing situations in China. On one hand, it is heartily welcomed by the public. On the other hand, it is being persecuted and tortured by the Communist regime. Falun Gong is a cultivation method similar to Tai Chi and Yoga. Based on the principles of “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance,” it consists of five sets of exercises, including meditation, and thus is able to improve one’s health and purify one’s mind. It not only attracts countless practitioners in China but has spread worldwide to over seventy countries.
Last Wednesday in the square in Toledo City centre, Falun Gong practitioners demonstrated to us their beautiful exercises and this (The camera lens shifts toward the anti-torture exhibition in which the practitioners played the roles and the displayed photos of the persecuted practitioners in China) the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners that is happening in China. The Chinese Government is persecuting, torturing and murdering them.
(The camera lens shifts toward a speech by a practitioner) “To ban Falun Gong, the Chinese government keeps slandering it and further monopolises state-run media to spread slander and lies. However, the only fact is that we are facing the most devastating genocide in human history. The Chinese Embassy in Spain even would not spare the local Chinese nationals granted legal residency. They purposefully refused Falun Gong practitioners passport renewals and extensions for the following two purposes. First, Falun Gong practitioners will be forced to be in a risky situation where they become illegal residents both in Spain and China, because they can not apply for legal residency in Spain without passports. Second, restriction is imposed on Falun Gong practitioners’ activities; practitioners that are Chinese nationals are confined to Spain, unable to participate in the activities held in other countries,” continued the practitioner.
Falun Gong is founded on the principle of “Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance.” Its five sets of exercises are slow-moving, harmonious and easy to learn. Yet the generated powerful energy field can bring benefits to practitioners’ physical and mental health. “In reality, because of its noticeable benefits to one’s health, Falun Dafa is very popular in China. Besides, its focus on cultivating one’s mind also contributes to upgrading human morality.” In 1993, the Ministry of Health of the People’s Republic of China awarded the founder of Falun Gong, Mr. Li Hongzhi, the Honorary Qigong Master award and other awards for its distinctive contributions to improving people’s health. According to the interviewed Falun Gong practitioner.“
Since 1992, Falun Gong’s miraculous effects to improve one’s health have been spread by word of mouth. Thus, the number of Falun Gong practitioners kept rising and outnumbered the membership of Chinese Communist Party. People could be seen to practise Falun Gong in almost every park in China. It is the incalculable number of Falun Gong practitioners and its principles of “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance” that China’s former leader Jiang Zemin and his Communist regime can not tolerate. Out of his personal fear and jealousy, Jiang Zemin considers Falun Gong as a threat to his political power.”
Since the bloody crackdown in 1999, thousands of Falun Gong practitioners have been unlawfully imprisoned in China’s labour camps and psychiatric units where they are subjected to systematic persecution and torture. “The reason why I said we are facing the most brutal genocide in human history is that it affects over one hundred million lives and is a persecution against the freedom of belief, while the belief has been recognised in over seventy countries in the world. Besides, now at least two million people are being unlawfully imprisoned in labour camps. Over 2,000 people have been tortured to death by unimaginable physical torture such as sleep deprivation and continual beating. Electric batons are used to burn one’s private parts; female practitioners are stripped naked and sent to male inmates’ cell where male inmates take turns raping them; practitioners are injected with psychotropic drugs causing damage to their central nerve system. The persecution happening in China is beyond imagination.”
Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and several other human rights groups think that China’s persecution of Falun Gong is clearly a case of human rights abuses. They confirmed that Falun Gong practitioners are indeed subjected to brutal persecution. For the sake of economic interests, some countries refuse to condemn China for its persecution against Falun Gong. However, there are still over twenty countries which accepted Falun Gong practitioners’ lawsuits against Jiang Zemin and his accomplices.
The Argentine Government once received a threatening letter from the Chinese Embassy in Argentina demanding the Argentine Government to forbid Falun Gong practitioners to attend an annual international painting exhibition. “China has extended the persecution to other countries. Of course, a western democratic country will not torture or persecute anyone. But China is extending the persecution to overseas Falun Gong practitioners in such ways as tapping practitioners’ telephones, refusing practitioners passport extensions, or harassing the practitioners making peaceful appeals in front of the Chinese Embassies.
In all parts of Spain, people express their support for Falun Gong. There are many people practising Falun Gong in Spain. On Sundays, in Retiro Park, Madrid, many people freely gather to practise Falun Gong and voluntary teaching of the exercise is offered. Today in China that type of scene would never be tolerated.
