An assistant commissioner of the Daqing Public Security Office in Heilongjiang Province said, "Ordinarily when police officers investigate a case, citizens are eager to help and willingly tell us what they know. But nowadays, they either try to mislead us or keep their mouths tightly shut as if we were the criminals. We shy away from talking to citizens, especially when it concerns Falun Gong, because as soon as we open our mouths, people turn away from us."
An office chief in Daqing said, "The provincial public security officers who specialise in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners are not well-received when they visit most local offices. However, at Daqing we welcome them and let them decide whether a detainee should be sent to a forced labour camp when we are perfectly capable of making that decision. In my opinion, these officers are lucky to have a job persecuting Falun Gong, and if it weren't for Falun Gong, they'd be out of a job. What they do is quite distasteful, and their very presence is detrimental to everyone that associates with them."
