Since the 2006 Chinese New Year, the Mudanjiang City Prison's Eighth District wardens, Zhang Shengli, Wu Xuejun and Song Junpiao have intensified the persecution of the incarcerated Dafa practitioners. These wardens are persecuting Falun Gong under the direction of Tang Xiaohui, head warden of the Eighth District, and Chen Zhanfeng, the political instructor.
On February 17th, 2006, Song Junpiao, leader of the third squadron, demanded that Dafa practitioner Huang Guodong, who is over 60, perform intensive labour. Huang refused Song's demand, so Song ordered inmate Cheng Yonghe to forcibly drag Huang to a corner in the prison sweatshop. Dafa practitioners Guan Wenlong, Liu Tieren, Liu Jun, Xu Xiangdong, Zhang Shijiang, and Shen Jinxiang were also forcibly dragged to this corner. Song and Cheng did not allow these practitioners to talk.
At 8:00 a.m. on February 22nd, jail warden Wu Xuejun brutally assaulted Dafa practitioner Xu Xiangdong, when the latter showed up for forced labour. Wu then threatened to put Mr. Xu in solitary confinement for his refusal to sign the so-called repentance statement1. Wu failed to make Xu Xuejun renounce his belief in Dafa.
In the afternoon, Wu abused Dafa practitioner Liu Tieren, who was put into the third prison squadron. Wu also ordered jail warden Li Xiaowei to abuse Dafa practitioner Zhang Shijiang. Wu threatened to have these practitioners stand upright for eleven hours continuously every day.
On February 23rd, jail warden Song put practitioner Huang Guodong in solitary confinement, because Huang refused to perform the forced labour.
Dafa practitioner Guan Wenlong refused to perform any forced labour. The prison's policy, known as the chain of responsibility, assigns inmates to practitioners, and whenever a practitioner refuses to submit to persecution, the associated inmate will also be blamed. Inmate Guan Zhenli, who is in charge of Guan Wenlong, feared that Wenlong would not submit to persecution, so Guan brutally assaulted Wenlong. The beating disfigured Wenlong's face and severely bruised his back, shoulders, and arms. Wenlong's body became swollen due to the beating.
On the morning of February 23rd, jail wardens Chen Zhanfeng and Wu Xuejun used electric batons to beat practitioner Guan Wenlong in the sweatshop office. These wardens also deprived Wenlong of any sleep. Wu also used an awl to poke holes in Guan Wenlong's back and right leg. At noon, the wardens denied Wenlong lunch and beat him in the toilet. They did not release Wenlong until all other inmates had finished eating. Wenlong's face was bloody and swollen.
On the morning of February 24th, jail wardens Wu Xuejun and Liu Bo used electric batons to beat practitioner Liu Jun. Liu's hands were severely injured. These wardens were not satisfied with the result, so they dragged Liu into the toilet and resumed the beating with electric batons and rubber clubs. After over 60 minutes of beating, Liu Bo had to be carried out of the toilet by two inmates. He could neither walk nor move his waist. His right leg turned lame.
On February 25th, warden Wu started torturing practitioners as soon as he came to work. Wu used an awl to stab Guan Wenlong again and tortured him in the toilet for half an hour. In the same morning, practitioner Zhang Shijiang refused to perform the forced labour, so wardens Zhang Shengli and Cheng Zhanfeng used four electric batons to beat him until the batteries were depleted. Zhang Lijiang's heart almost stopped beating due to the electric shocks, and his whole body convulsed. Mr. Zhang suffered excruciating pain. He had to be carried back to the cell by other inmates, yet wardens dragged Zhang back to the sweatshop the very next day.
