This painting is highlighting the abuse and torture that those Falun Gong practitioners been detained in China have to go through on a daily basis. With this torture method, sharp bamboo sticks are jammed underneath the fingernails. In this depiction, even though the pain is excruciating, the practitioner has no choice but to painfully endure the process.
