On May 25th, 2006, the Yanbian Political and Judiciary systems (including the political and judiciary, political security, and national security) held a meeting to plan and carry out the persecution against all Falun Gong practitioners in Yanji City before June 15th. Using names on a list, they planned to check for practitioners in all the rental houses in the area within a one-month period of time. Personnel from the local police stations in Yanji City were mobilised to check out the permanent resident’s registration forms house by house. They entered Dafa practitioners' homes, checking every room and searching for so-called "leads," with the excuse of starting a general survey of the permanent residents’ registration.
This action by the authorities was actually to damage Falun Dafa sites producing leaflets exposing the persecution and to arrest Falun Gong practitioners who have been forced to become homeless due to the persecution.
Since the end of February, the persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners in the Yanbian area of Jilin Province has become very intense. In March, Chinese Communist Party senior official Wu Guanzheng arrived in Yanbian for an inspection. He went to the Chaoyang local police station where the persecution against Falun Dafa practitioners is the most severe in Yanji City, and praised and encouraged the actions of the officers. In mid-May, another Chinese Communist Party senior official, Jia Qinglin, arrived in Yanbian to implement harsh persecution measures against practitioners in the Yanbian area.
We now know that all eight counties and cities in the Yanbian area have suffered persecution to varying degrees. From the end of February to the present day, the known facts are as follows: In Yanji City, more than 10 Falun Gong practitioners, including Dong Guizhi and Song Guoru, have been arrested and five site producing leaflets were destroyed. The confiscated property and money totalled about 100,000 yuan1. In Dunhua City, 18 Falun Gong practitioners were arrested, and one material production site was destroyed. In Longjing City, many Falun Gong practitioners have been arrested. In Wangqing County, six Falun Gong practitioners were arrested. In Antu County, many Falun Gong practitioners were arrested.
In mid-April, the Jilin Province 610 Office2, Yanbian State 610 Office, and the Yanbian State Political and Judiciary Committee went to Helong City and Bajiazi City to oversee a large-scale persecution. They decided that the effort to attack Falun Gong was not sufficient and thus severely criticised the secretary of the Helong City Political and Judiciary Committee, the Helong Municipal Police Department chief, Helong City Education Committee director, Bajiazi City Police Department director, and others, removing them from office as punishment. Afterwards, the authorities organised the Helong Municipal Police Department, Bajiazi City Police Department and the Political Security Section to make arrests following a list of names of more than 200 people, including those who once practised Falun Gong but who presently do not. It is known that 38 Falun Dafa practitioners were arrested and sent to Helong City Detention Centre and the Bajiazi Police Station. It is said that they would all be put into labour camps directly, with a minimum term of at least 2 years.
At present, plainclothes policemen are eavesdropping everywhere looking for Falun Gong practitioners' whereabouts, offering a 5,000-yuan reward to anyone who reports a Falun Gong practitioner to them. They are deceiving those who don't know the truth about Falun Gong and the persecution to betray their conscience. This current round of persecution has already lasted for nearly two months.
Note
1. "Yuan" is the Chinese currency; 500 yuan is equal to the average monthly income of an urban worker in China.
2. "The 610 office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.
