Mr. David Howarth, a member of British Parliament representing the city of Cambridge, delivered a speech on August 15th, calling upon the UK government and all of the western governments to participate in the investigation of organ harvesting from live Falun Gong practitioners by the Chinese communist regime.
In an opening ceremony in Cambridge, British MP, David Howarth, called upon all governments in the world to investigate the organ harvesting on live Falun Gong practitioners in China |
Mr. Howarth said he realised the seriousness of the event after reading several related reports and meeting Mr. David Kilgour, a former member of the Canadian parliament who co-authored “Report into Allegations of Organ Harvesting of Falun Gong Practitioners in China,” last month. Since then, he has urged the British government to pay attention to this issue and carry out an investigation.
Mr. Howarth said the Canadian report brought up several serious issues and what had been going on was extremely shameless. “The UK government and all of the western governments should demand the Chinese government to come up with explanations.” He was not satisfied with the reactions of the British government as the latter didn’t pay sufficient attention to this event.
Mr. Howarth also pointed out that he gave full support to the global boycott initiated by Amnesty International against Internet giants, including Yahoo, Microsoft and Google, because the three companies have conspired with the Chinese communist regime to suppress freedoms of speech and thought.
He told the participants of the ceremony that freedom of belief is part of freedom of expression and thought and it should be safeguarded all over the world. Without freedom of belief, all other freedoms become baseless. He said even though these major companies need to pursue economic profits, they ought to support human rights, a universal value, as far as they could. Mr. Howarth mentioned Google specifically. He said Google has been known for their commitment to freedom and therefore, the cooperation between Google and the Chinese communist regime was short sighted. Once this dishonorable cooperation was exposed to the customers, Google would have to suffer the disaster they created for themselves.
Mr. Howarth is associated with the Liberal Democrats. Before he was elected as a member of the British parliament in 2005, he has served as a Cambridge city councilor since 1987 and taught law and economics at Cambridge University for many years.
