Mr. Li Yanzhong, 50 years old, was from Beijing. The police authorities of the Jiugong area, Daxing District, Beijing, arrested him in the summer of 2001 for practising Falun Dafa and sentenced him to two years of forced labour. They held him at the Tuanhe Forced Labour Camp in Beijing. The police officers in the forced labour camp beat him until he was paralysed. After being held in detention for 16 months, they released Mr. Li on bail due to his medical condition at the end of 2002. His family members transferred him to Jiugong Hospital after he had been hospitalised in Chaoyang Hospital in Beijing for five months. Li Yanzhong never recovered and died due to the persecution on November 23rd, 2006.
Ms. Zhou Cuizhi, 71 years old, was from the Fengrun New Region of Tangshan City, Hebei Province. She started to practise Falun Gong in 1997 and after over a month of practice, all of her illnesses disappeared. She was grateful to Dafa from the bottom of her heart, so she always introduced Dafa and its miracles to people. Her husband also started the practice after seeing her dramatic improvements. In June 2004, the policemen deployed from the “110 anti-violence team” arrested her husband, Mr. Zhao Wen for informing people about the true nature of Falun Gong. The authorities extorted 3,000 “yuan1” from the family before they released him. Under the harassments and threats of the police, Ms. Zhou Cuizi showed symptoms of illnesses and her health deteriorated. She died in December 2006.
Ms. Guo Ruiping was an employee of the Juli Group Company in Weifang City, Shandong Province. She used to have serious asthma but after she started to practise Falun Dafa in 1996, she became healthy and strictly followed the principles of “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.” After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started to persecute Falun Gong in 1999, the authorities sent people to her home to harass her many times. They confiscated her Dafa books. Ms. Guo went to Beijing twice—on May 29th, 2000 and in December 2000—to appeal for justice for Dafa. The personnel from the Party Committee of the Juli Group Company detained her in the Xiyuan Hotel for many days and extorted 3,000 yuan from her. Afterwards, they detained her for 15 additional days. Since 1999, personnel from the Juli Group Company would send Ms. Guo to brainwashing sessions during each holiday. Ms. Guo was forced to leave her home many times and move from place to place to avoid arrest. Due to these difficult conditions, her health started to deteriorate. She passed away on July 25th, 2006, due to the injustice she suffered. She was only 43 years old.
Ms. Bai Fenglan, 58 years old, was from Xidianzi Village, Chongli County, Hebei Province. She started to practise Falun Dafa in the autumn of 1998. She was very weak before she started to practise and had migraines and associated nausea for over 20 years. She did not get along with her husband and they often fought with each other, sometimes to the point of almost getting a divorce. Since she and her husband started the practice at the same time, they became healthy and the family environment was harmonious. After July 20th, 1999, when the CCP started the overwhelming persecution of Dafa, Ms. Bai went to Beijing four times to appeal for justice for Dafa. Policemen from Jishuitan arrested her at the entrance of a subway station in Beijing on October 25th, 2000. One day later, the authorities sent her to the Zhangjiakou City Liaison Office in Beijing. The next day, personnel from the Police Department of Chongli County took her back and sent her the the Chongli County Detention Centre after they had interrogated her. One month later, they sentenced her to four years in prison. After Ms. Bai's family members sent 15,000 yuan to the authorities through some contacts, the sentence was changed to four years in prison but suspended for three years, meaning she could serve the term outside of prison. Ms. Bai was released and returned home in August 2001. During her nine months of imprisonment, the authorities had severely tortured her mentally, which led to her hands constantly shaking. The police officers continued to harass her even after she returned home. The authorities extorted money from her husband during her imprisonment. They also fined her son 500 yuan for carrying leaflets exposing the persecution for his mother. The entire family has been under severe mental harassment. The relentless pressure of the persecution eventually led to Ms. Bai's death on February 2nd, 2007.
Ms. Xu Xiangqin, in her 60s, was from Shoushan Town, Liaoyang County, Liaoning Province. She started the practice of Dafa in 1995. She benefited mentally and physically, and many of her illnesses disappeared. The Police Department of Liaoyang County arrested her in May 2001 and sent her to the “Caring School” at Shizuizi of Liaoyang City for brainwashing. After they released her, she was in constant fear and under tremendous mental pressure. She passed away on April 25th, 2004.
Ms. Li Suzhen, 74 years old, was from Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province. She started to practise Falun Gong in 1997. She used to be in poor health before the practice and suffered from insomnia all the time. After she started the practice, she became very healthy. Personnel from the police station and community office of Dongli Village arrested her when she distributed leaflets exposing the persecution in 2004. They detained and tortured her until she developed illness symptoms. Ms. Li passed away at 8:00 a.m. on February 17th, 2007.
Ms. Chen Yuanzhen, 57 years old, was an employee of the Aquatic Products Team in Liangxinbu, the Junshan District, Yueyang City, Hunan Province. She used to have a very bad reputation. However, since she started the practice of Dafa in 1997, she remembered and followed Dafa's teaching of “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance” all the time. She drastically improved physically and spiritually, and the entire village witnessed that change. But ever since July 20th, 1999, personnel from the “610 Office2” went to her home and harassed her frequently. They did not allow her to practise the exercises. Because of this, Ms. Chen showed severe symptoms of illness. Shang Daiping, the head of the local police station, and others threatened at her home and told her, “If you mention that your illness is caused by the practice, we will give you 6,000 yuan.” Ms. Chen did not do that, but due to their frequent threats and harassment as well as other forms of persecution, Ms. Chen Yuanzhen died on December 30th, 2003.
Note
1. "Yuan" is the Chinese currency; 500 yuan is equal to the average monthly income of an urban worker in China.
2. "The 610 office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.
