Mr. Sui Yanzhang is currently undergoing gross abuse at the Changliu Detention Centre in Tonghua City, Jilin Province. He has been tortured beyond recognition.
For material gain, Changliu Detention Centre officials made their inmates do forced labour to earn revenue by making toothpicks for export. Everyone is forced to get up at 5.30 a..m. and begin work at 6:00 a.m. If they are unable to finish their quotas, they have to continue working until midnight. As the working hours were long and the quality of the food was poor, the inmates were under-nourished and exhausted, making it difficult for them to finish their quotas. The warden incited the criminals to beat Mr. Sui Yanzhang. Those who could not finish their quotas also beat him out of frustration. Mr. Sui has now become skeleton-like from the torture. His wife Xu Yingjie could not recognise her own husband during his trial.
His family members are deeply worried about Mr. Sui's health. He has been held at this detention centre for over four months.
Detention centre chief Lu Dianxi publicly slandered Falun Gong during a television broadcast. He also actively participated in the detention of Falun Gong practitioners. Lu Dianxi also threatened practitioners who went on hunger strikes, telling them that their prison sentences would be extended by one to three years. Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Jin Min's term was extended as a result of his peaceful resistance to the persecution.
