Ms. Serene Zhang, originally from Chengdu, China, bought tickets for herself and her husband on the afternoon of January 24th, and took the special shuttle to the Orpheum Theatre to watch the Chinese New Year Spectacular featuring Divine Performing Arts of New York. Afterwards, she spoke with a reporter and shared her impressions of the show.
Ms. Zhang said she was very moved by the performance, especially the dance, "The Risen Lotus Flower." She said, "I know little about Falun Gong, but I think Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance are great. The dance was a realistic presentation of the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. To protect her fellow practitioners, the Falun Gong practitioner in the dance was beaten to death in jail.
"The Chinese Communist Party confuses right and wrong. The police in black made me feel the dark rule [of the Party]. I had tears in my eyes."
Ms. Zhang said the show mainly presented pure Chinese culture, a sharp contrast to the force-feeding style propaganda entertainment now prevalent in China.
