On May 10, Austrian Falun Gong practitioners celebrated World Falun Dafa Day in Vienna and Salzburg.
May is the busy tourist season in Austria. During celebrations for World Falun Dafa Day, practitioners raised awareness about the 9-year persecution of Falun Gong, to local residents and tourists from all over the world. After learning the facts, many signed a petition to condemn the persecution. Some people also expressed an interest in learning the Falun Gong exercises.

A young Chinese woman told a reporter that she came to Austria about one year ago and her husband installed a satellite receiver for her to watch the programs broadcast by New Tang Dynasty TV. She said, "From their TV programs, I learned that there were numerous Falun Gong practitioners freely meditating in parks in China, but the situation changed after July 1999. I didn't know there was such a brutal persecution happening in China. It is really sad."

In recognition of the positive social impact of Falun Dafa, Austrian Congresswomen Brigid Weizinger and Petra Bayr each wrote to the Austria Falun Dafa Association to congratulate the practitioners on World Falun Dafa Day.
