Amsterdam, the capital of Holland, is a well known city around the world. With 176 different nationalities, it is one of the world's most multicultural cities. Just like other metropolitan cities around the world, Amsterdam is home to a Chinatown. The Chinatown is visited by many Chinese locals and tourists.
On Saturday, June 7th, a "Quitting the Communist Party" activity was held at the Nieuwemarkt, next to Chinatown. Information about quitting the party and the persecution of Falun Gong in China were handed out to the people. Both Chinese and non-Chinese where happy to receive the information. Chinese people were also provided with the opportunity to withdraw from the Chinese Communist Party on the spot.
The public was also being informed about the incident that happened in Flushing, New York in recent times. Falun Gong practitioners have been subjected to violent attacks, in which hundreds of Chinese 'protesters' where incited to oppose and attack Falun Gong practitioners. People were surprised and shocked to hear that such a thing could take place in a democratic country.
The banners and photo depictions of the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China received attention from many. It occurred often that the people would ask: "Why? Why do they (the CCP) persecute their own citizens?"
Many tourists visiting Amsterdam had already learned about Falun Gong and the persecution in China, and they said that they had seen demonstrations in their own countries. The truth about Falun Gong and the persecution is known by many around the world. One tourist from Lima, Peru, said after he had seen the photo boards about the persecution that he had already heard about it in his home country. He took some materials with him to give to his friends. People from Germany, Poland, Romania, India, America, France, Spain and many other countries had already learned about the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.
Two young reporters from Amnesty International, who were working on an article, interviewed one of the Chinese practitioners.
A man from Iran, who is living in Amsterdam, said that he has a website about Persian poetry and that he had put a link to a Falun Gong website on his website a long time ago. For his colleague, a sculpture artist from Bosnia-Herzegovina, he took some information material.
