Mr. Qin Sichao, 53, from Taixing Village, Linjiang City, Jilin Province, makes his living leasing motor tricycles. He suffers from heart disease. Believing a Falun Gong amulet1 could cure his illness, Mr. Qin hung one in his car. Someone informed the police of this and on May 21st, 2008, Mr. Qin was tricked into going to the Linjiang building, where he was arrested.
The officers detained Mr. Qin in the Domestic Security Division and searched his house. Nobody was at home at the time. After his wife returned home and heard what had happened, she went to the Domestic Security Division to look for her husband. The police refused to release Mr. Qin and while two officers distracted his wife, another two officers pulled Mr. Qin into a car and took him to Linjiang Detention Centre. He was detained there for 15 days.
Since Mr. Qin had a very good reputation, the township cadres sent a "guarantee letter2" with their signatures asking for his release. However, on June 5th, 2008, Qin Sichao was sentenced to one year of forced labour. Mr. Qin was found to have heart disease during the medical exam required for labour camp admittance, but the officers brought him a bottle of heart medicine and proceeded to take him away.
Mr. Qin's wife has not received any information regarding her husband.
Note
1. Amulet - In China, practitioners sometimes explain the facts about Falun Gong by giving people something small to wear or cherish, bearing a few words reminding them of the goodness of Falun Gong.
2. "Guarantee Statement": A statement to declare that one is remorseful for practising Falun Gong and guarantees not to practise Falun Gong again, not to go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and never again associate with any Falun Dafa practitioners.
