While the 2008 Beijing Olympics is fast approaching, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is using the excuse of "security for the Olympics" to arrest and detain Falun Gong practitioners, ransack their homes, and confuse the general populace with lies and deceit, in an attempt to cover up the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.
Recently, the Hengshui City 610 Office1 of Hebei Province has sent secret documents to every county, city, district and department under its direct control, after which it was passed down to every township, town and department under their direct control, orders for personnel to investigate, monitor and arrest Falun Gong practitioners.
In recent days, Jing Chunhua, Hengshui Municipal Party Committee Secretary in Hebei Province, called a meeting with chief leaders from every unit, and ordered them to strengthen surveillance of Falun Gong practitioners. They were threatened that if any unit has practitioners going to Beijing and Qinhuangdao [to appeal for justice for Falun Gong] during the Olympics, the chief leader will be removed from office.
Accordingly, Hengshui City CCP officials began to harass and arrest Falun Gong practitioners, and forced practitioners into brainwashing centres and detention centres for persecution. Recent cases of harassment and persecution of Falun Gong by the Hengshui City 610 Office and other CCP personnel are as follows:
On May 30th-31st, 2008, a group of people from the Anping Town Government Police station, Anping County, Hebei Province arrived at every village in Anping County, and led by village cadres, went to Falun Gong practitioners' homes, forcing them to fill out information, including their name, age, and occupation on a pre-printed list, which states, "I guarantee I will not to go to Beijing before the Olympics."
At around 10:00 a.m. on May 31st, Jia Erxing, a villager from Qianzhuang Village, Anping County led four people, among whom were an Anping County cadre and town police station officers, to every Falun Gong practitioner's home in the village. They harassed the practitioners, claiming it was due to orders from the top to strictly control Falun Gong before the Olympics and have them sign a guarantee statement. Jia Erxing did not even let off an older lady who is illiterate, and his aunt whom he met on the road. If practitioners were not home during the day, they forced practitioners' family members to sign the guarantee statement instead. On the afternoon of May 27th, 2008, accountant Liu Fengyu and chief Zhao Baoliang of Tongzhan Village Brigade, Wangchang Township, Zaoqiang County each led people from the Hengshui City National Security Division to the homes of Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Liu Xiuzhi and Ms. Liu Fengrong. The two practitioners were arrested. The following night, another car came and took away Zheng Aimin's husband (who is not a Falun Gong practitioner). On May 29th, they released Zheng Aimin's husband, but arrested Zheng Aimin, and detained her at the Hengshui City Detention Centre. After Liu Xiuzhi was taken to the detention centre, he was ill with vomiting and diarrhoea, and was in shock. His family was extorted of 10,000 yuan2, and then he was allowed to go home.
On June 11th, staff from the Hengshui City 610 Office and National Security Division arrested Jing County Falun Gong practitioner Zheng Aiju, and ransacked his home. The Hengshui City 610 Office and National Security Division carried out persecution of practitioners in Wangchang Township, Zaoqiang County. They arranged township government staff to make up a team of two people in each village to investigate Falun Gong practitioners, to check if they have a satellite receiver, and to order them to write a guarantee statement, etc. National Security Division personnel set Wangchang Township as their focus. The Wangchang Township government also actively cooperated with the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. They arranged two township government staff members per village to check on Falun Gong practitioners to see if they had a satellite receiver, and force them to write guarantee statements, etc. Chengguan Town government officials forced local Falun Gong practitioners to sign a "joint guarantee statement." Township and town police stations in Encha, Jiahui, Xintun and other areas arrested practitioners found to have satellite receivers and Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution in Xiaozhang Town and Wangchang Township, and extorted amounts ranging from 6,000 to over 10,000 yuan from practitioners.
On the morning of June 30th, 2008, Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhang Xiuling of Hengshui City, Hebei Province was arrested by Hengshui City Development Area police for distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong . After 5:00 p.m. that evening, police rushed into her home to conduct a search. Her neighbour (also a Falun Gong practitioner) Sun Sumei stopped to see what was happening. The police asked her if she practised Falun Gong, and also ransacked her home, confiscated Falun Gong books and other items, and arrested Zhang Xiuling and Sun Sumei. They are now detained at the Hengshui City Detention Centre.
On July 1st, 2008, police from the National Security Division, Hengshui City Public Security Bureau, arrested practitioner Sun Yinmei of Zhengzhuang, Liangwa Township, Anping County.
At noon on July 3rd, 2008, approximately nine police officers from the National Security Division, Hengshui City Public Security Bureau, led by Raoyang County Police Station assistant commissioner Fan Yanhong, Raoyang County National Security Division chief Gao Jianxi and police officer Zhao Xituo, arrested Falun Gong practitioners Kong Lingba and Yang Xun of Kongjundao Village, Chengguan Township and Ma Peifang of Gucheng Village. They then harassed practitioners in Tongyue Township (details are as yet unknown). Kong Lingba and Yang Xun are now being persecuted at the Hengshui City brainwashing centre, while Ma Peifang is at the county police station. It has been heard that the police planned to persecute Falun Gong practitioners in Raoyang County for one week. According to them, "Other cases require evidence for arrest, but no evidence is needed for Falun Gong. We will release them after the Olympics."
On July 3rd, police officers from the Hengshui City Development Area arrested practitioner Li Guirong and her husband Fan. Li Guirong was extorted of 15,000 yuan by CCP personnel, and released on July 4th. Her husband is still being detained.
Falun Gong practitioners in Shen County and Jing County were also harassed and persecuted.
This recent round of persecution of Hengshui City practitioners is under the direct command of the Hengshui City CCP Municipal Committee and the Hengshui City 610 Office, carried out by agents from the National Security Division of the Hengshui City Public Security Bureau.
