Mr. Li Gu, a Falun Gong practitioner in his 30s from Nanchang City, was arrested when he went out at night to distribute Falun Gong materials at the end of January 2008. He was incarcerated in the Nanchang City Second Prison until he was later sentenced to eight years in prison by the Superior Court at Qingshanhu in Nanchang City. A female practitioner was sentenced to three years in prison at the same time.
When Mr. Li was first arrested, his house was ransacked. His computer, printer, DVD burner, and 4,000 yuan1 that he had in his home were all taken. His wife was also arrested and incarcerated in the Nanchang City Second Prison.
He was savagely beaten and his family was denied visitation. As a result, he could not even get any clean clothes or sheets to change for six months, and he suffered terribly.
