A Falun Gong practitioner who was once held in Panjin Prison wrote a diary about the extremely difficult circumstances, exposing how prison guards brutally beat and tortured practitioners, and forced them into slave labour. Unfortunately, this is just the tip of the iceberg.
August 18th, 2006
Guards Zhang Guolin, Zhang Wanfu and Director He tied practitioners Mr. Chen Binli, Mr. Song Zhendong, Mr. Tian Yunhai, Mr. Zhang Zhenxue, Mr. Liu Deqing to iron chairs, and several guards shocked them with electric batons and beat them. The smell of burned flesh filled the hallways.
March 30th, 2008
Guard Zhang Kai, who manages production, went to visit the workshop and found that Falun Gong practitioners were refusing to work. He went back to recommend to Director Zhang Guolin that the practitioners who refused to work be severely punished.
April 1st, 2008
The guards dragged eleven practitioners onto a field, strip-searched them, and then dragged them to the so-called "Electric Education Centre," where they shocked them with electric batons with over 800,000-volt strength (regular electric batons sold by security companies are often only 300,000 volts).
Mr. Jiang Bo could not walk for a month, and the electric shocks left a big hole in his foot.
The electric shocks left Mr. Zhang Ke's back covered with blisters, and he still has a scar on his back to this day.
Mr. Liu Litao has blisters all over his body. He couldn't talk after being shocked. Guard Zhang Guolin ordered the prison doctor to use electric needles on his hands and feet.
Mr. Zhang Zhenxue was shocked by six to seven batons at the same time. In response, he shouted: "Falun Gong is good!" Guard Zhang Guolin poured a bottle of water on Zhang Zhenxue's head and continued shocking him and clubbing his head. Zhang Zhenxue's face was so severely disfigured after the beating that he was barely recognizable.
Mr. Liu Deqing was knocked on the ground and shocked by eight electric batons. He was also unrecognizable after the torture.
Mid-April 2008
When the Ministry of Justice came to inspect the prison, several inmates wanted to report their mistreatment to them. One inmate knelt on the ground and began to cry, but the guard Zhang Guolin told the inspectors that the inmate was psychotic. The next day the inspectors asked the inmates to tell them what was going on, and assured them that there would be no retaliation. The inmates reported that the guards were breaking the law, required them to work long hours, and extended their work time at will, until 10:00 p.m., midnight, or even all night. The inspectors made a show of writing a report. Guard Zhang Guolin then retaliated. The inmates were shocked and beaten, and had their work hours extended to 2:00 a.m., 3:00 a.m., or even 5:00 a.m. He hid the inmates and Falun Gong practitioners in the field during subsequent inspections.
Late June 2008
Mr. Tian Yunhai and Mr. Liu Deqing were talking, and guard Zhang Wanfu slapped their faces. Mr. Tian Yunhai refused to work overtime and went back early. Guard Zhang Wanfu extended his work hours and instigated other guards to abuse him.
October 10th-11th, 2008
Group leader Guan Fengchun ordered inmates to watch practitioners and make sure they did not do the Falun Gong exercises. He also beat Mr. Zhang Zhenxue's face black and blue.
October 13th, 2008
Group leader Guan Fengchun shocked Mr. Chen Binli, Mr. Zhang Zhenxue, and Mr. Liu Deqing. He also slapped an inmate on the face for not reporting that practitioners were doing the Falun Gong exercises.
October 14th, 2008
Group leader Guan Fengchun instigated inmates to beat Mr. Liu Litao.
October 14th-15th, 2008
In order to make more money for themselves, the guards ordered a lot of production each day. If the inmates still could not finish after working extended hours, they were punished. Over these two days, more than twenty people were shocked with electric batons.
