On "International Nurses Day," a Comatose Nurse Is Put on Trial

On May 12th, "International Nurses Day," nurse and Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liang Xiulan, who was in a deep coma at the time, was put on trial in Qian'an City, Hebei Province. Those responsible for this miscarriage of justice were Zhou Wenqing and Wang Wen from the Procuratorate, Feng Xiaolin and Zhao Wenlu from the court system, and Yang Yulin and two others from a brainwashing centre. The court did not even notify Ms. Liang Xiulan's family about her trial.

The Qian'an City Detention Centre and the brainwashing centre did not want to be held responsible for Ms. Liang's deteriorating health and did not want to keep her in custody. After the trial, the court personnel drove Ms. Liang's physically disabled husband to the court, then took her and her husband home together.

Ms. Liang Xiulan is 43 years old. She was an outstanding nurse at the Chinese Medical Hospital of Qian'an City. Her parents live in Xiaguanying Village, Xiaguanying Town. She began to practise Falun Gong in 1998. Her husband was a policeman. Several years ago, her husband had a stroke and became paralysed. Ms. Liang took care of all the housework. Under her conscientious care, her husband's condition improved.

Ms. Liang has been arrested multiple times. In the brainwashing centres and police department, her face has been slapped and she has been shocked with electric batons and tortured her in many other ways. Ms. Liang has suffered both physically and mentally. In May 2008 when she was arrested, policeman Pu Yonglai snarled at her, "If you die in our hands, it will be counted as suicide. Your death will have nothing to do with us. If you publicize what we did, we will be more than happy to learn about it. That way our bosses will know that we really did our work." He handcuffed her to two separate chairs. He and another policeman then used electric batons to shock her for an extended period of time. On the afternoon of the second day, policeman Ha Fulong and two others took her into another torture chamber and used electric batons to sexually assault her. They shocked her on her vagina, breasts, neck, feet, and lower body. While she was being covered with wounds and injuries from the torture, policeman Ha Fulong laughed.

Around April 1st, 2009, Pu Yonglai, Ha Fulong, and Tang Guoqiang from the Domestic Security Division of Qian'an City arrested Ms. Liang again and took her to Qian'an Detention Centre. She went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. The detention centre brutally force-fed and tortured her further. Over the course of forty days, she became terribly emaciated and on the verge of death. The detention centre was afraid of being held responsible and later on had policeman Pu Yonglai transfer Ms. Liang to the brainwashing centre, located inside the Qian'an Seed Company.
