On May 20th, 2009, six practitioners, including Mr. Pan Yujun, Ms. Ren Yurqiao, Ms. Li Qiaofeng, Ms. Ren Yongxiu, Mr. Lu Jianguo, and Mr. Li Yufu from Laizhou City, Shandong Province, were sentenced and sent to Jinan Prison. Since Mr. Pan Yujun was arrested again, he has been cruelly tortured. He weighs barely over 100 pounds, is extremely weak and unable to stand up, is incontinent, has no energy to talk aloud, and lives every day in a great amount of pain. He has been on a hunger strike for more than seven months. The guards conduct force-feeding on him once a week which causes him to almost pass out each time. The detention centre and the court are withholding information about his condition from his family
In February 2009 his father died while Mr. Pan was in detention, and he was not allowed to go home to see him for the last time. His mother is nearly 80 years old, and is having difficulty eating and sleeping. She has visited the court and the detention centre more than ten times, and each time it cost her over 100 yuan1. One time she knelt down to beg the prosecutor Qu Songtao to let her see her son, but the judge and guards refused her. Mr. Pan's older sister argued with the detention centre doorman, and was beaten. He even threatened to kill her.
On June 25th, 2008, Mr. Pan was working at the Panjia Construction Company located in Tushan Town. Officers from the Laizhou City Domestic Security Division and the 610 Office2 arrested him and ransacked his home. They tortured him for 48 hours in the Dianzi Brainwashing Centre, which resulted in his face turning blue, his mind being unclear, and his whole body being covered with wounds. Both hands became numb and he could not straighten out his fingers. The officers handcuffed his wrists and hung him up on the wall, with the tips of his toes barely touching the floor. They forced him to smoke by stuffing cigarettes in his nose, and then force-fed him beer by grabbing his hair and pinching his nose [Note: Falun Gong practitioners generally do not smoke or drink alcohol]. They failed at first, and then they called in another officer to punch his stomach very hard, and force-fed him beer when he took a deep breathe due to the pain. The nails that held his handcuffs to the wall were both broken off the wall when Mr. Pan struggled, and the officers then changed to a set of expanding tension screws, and those broke off as well. They then changed to another set of bigger screws. They stripped Mr. Pan, and insulted him by writing and drawing on his body. They tied his feet together, swinging his body, and causing his body weight to be totally suspended on his two wrists. The handcuffs cut into his flesh, and both sides of his chest were purple and bruised due to the beating. He could not take a deep breath, and when he coughed he was in extreme pain.
After Mr. Pan Yujun escaped the evil den on June 27th, 2008, he had to flee to avoid being arrested. The 610 Office agents searched for his whereabouts multiple times. On the evening of August 8th, 2008, officer Zhang Haifeng and others arrested Mr .Pan and another practitioner Ms. Ren Qiaoyue. They took them to the Dianzi Brainwashing Centre that same night. The police immediately hung Mr. Pan up to the wall by handcuffs, and continued to torture him for several days nonstop. He had not even recovered from the June tortures.
The 610 Office chief, Liu Jingbing, personally joined in on torturing Mr. Pan. One officer turned Mr. Pan's shirt up to cover his head, and then beat him very cruelly, instantly causing him to pass out. They poured cold water on him, saw that he was waking up, and then continued beating him. They force-fed him beer again, and left him under the baking sun and pouring rain. They shackled him, causing his ankles to be severely injured and swollen. The officers also used electric shock treatment on him by clipping electrodes onto his nipples and ears. He passed out many times due to being severely tortured, and was then awakened by cold water being poured on him. The officers even burnt his body by pressing hot metal flakes into him burned by a red-hot cigarette lighter.
One day Mr. Pan was forced to stand in the yard with both hands straight forward, palms facing up, and officers whipped his palms using a bamboo stick, while asking him questions. Another time officers forced Mr. Pan to walk in the yard with both hands handcuffed and ankle shackles on, and his feet were too swollen to wear shoes. When being beaten, Mr. Pan shouted, "Falun Gong is good!" Liu Jingbing then pinched his eyes deeply to force him to stop shouting. Officers even beat Mr. Pan until he lost control of his bowels, but they still failed to obtain any information from him. He was then transferred back to the detention centre.
Mr. Pan was on a protest hunger strike during the whole time of his detention. The guards brutally beat him, force-fed him, and encouraged regular prison inmates to beat him. They told the prisoners assigned to beat Mr. Pan to "use any means to make him eat, even beat him to death, as it is only a matter of paying his family several thousand yuan, and then we can just cremate him."
In order to cover up their torture of Mr. Pan, the detention centre refused his family visitation rights. They said he had been sentenced to prison, and that they would get back to them in ten days, but they still refused to allow a visit after ten days. Mr. Pan's mother and older sister went to the court to request visitation, but Xu Songtao pushed them out by force. His mother was heartbroken and cried sadly.
