Mr. Li Xiande and His Family Suffer Persecution

At around 9 a.m. on April 23rd, 2008, while on his way to visit a friend, Mr. Li Xiande, a resident of Zhennan Village, Qianguo County, Songyuan City, Jilin Province, was arrested at the gate of Naji Garden by officers Ma Hongzhe, Zhang Yingbiao and Li Guoqing from the Songyuan City Domestic Security Section. The officers searched him, seized more than 300 yuan¹ and his keys, which included his car and home keys. Then the officers drove his car to his home, arrested his wife and detained her at the Shanyou Detention Centre. The officers searched his home and seized his computer worth 6,900 yuan, more than 3,000 yuan in cash, his bank deposit book, and his new mini car worth 40,000 yuan.

Mr. Li's mother and his sister, Ms. Li Guixia, who were both living on the Red Flag Farm, were arrested the same day by the Xibotun Police Station. Ms. Li's husband, a practitioner, fled arrest. The police seized their TV, DVDs, and computer. Their child fled from their home after the Xibotun Police Station repeatedly harassed him at home in the days that followed. Their child's whereabouts are unknown.

Mr. Li was sentenced to a year of forced labour. His mother was detained for 15 days. His sister was sentenced to one and a half years of forced labour. His wife was sentenced to a year of forced labour but the Heizhuizi Forced Labour Camp would not admit her, citing her health condition as the reason. She was released from the Shanyou Detention Centre after having 20,000 yuan extorted from her.

On the night of July 11th, 2008, the Xibotun Police Station arrested Mr. Li's mother at home and detained her at the Qianguo County Detention Centre for 6 days.

That same night, the Wunan Police Station arrested Mr. Li's wife at home and also detained her at the Qianguo County Detention Centre for 6 days.

Mr. Li's father died on September 5th, 2008 after repeated police harassment.

Mr. Li was taken to the confined section in Jilin Province Jiutai Forced Labour Camp on May 31st, 2008. On December 15th, Mr. Li was subjected to the torture method "sitting board" from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. for carrying two Falun Gong articles. While he was sitting, guard Li Yunbo suggested to prisoner Zhang Lei that he fiercely kick Mr. Li from behind. Around 2:40 p.m. on December 19th, Mr. Li refused to write the three statements to give up Falun Gong, so guard Zhao Fengshan beat him until his mouth bled. On February 16th, 2009, chief guard Yu Mingzhu subjected him to another day of "sitting board" for rejecting an offer that would have reduced his prison term by 40 days if he agreed to give up practising Falun Gong.
