At 4:00 a.m. one day in April 2009, Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Liu Ji and his son Liu Fengyu were arrested at home and taken to Yinmahe Forced Labour Camp in Jiutai City in Jilin Province by Zhu Zhaohong, the former head of the police station in Xiyang Town and now the head of the Domestic Security Division, along with other officers.
Mr. Liu Ji, 58, lives in Hamatang Village, Xiyang Town, Yongji County, Jilin Province. In 1986, he converted to Buddhism. One day when he was helping to tear down a house, it suddenly collapsed. He was completely buried with only his head above the rubble. His third vertebra was fractured. The doctors could not help him. He was in such pain that that he wanted to die.
After seven days in the hospital, he returned home. He searched high and low for a cure and neither doctor, healer, or anyone else could help him. He even went to see a qigong master quite far from his home. It was over a thousand miles and it cost him more than 2,000 yuan1, but no relief.
In 1998, someone introduced him to Falun Gong and gave him a copy of Zhuan Falun, the main text of Falun Gong. At first he just regarded it as an ordinary qigong and didn't read it. Then one day, when he took some water to put at the feet of the Buddha statue he worshipped, he suddenly had intense pain in one of his legs. A thought occurred to him, "If Falun Gong is a righteous Buddha law, it should eliminate the pain" and that's what happened miraculously.
Mr. Liu therefore decided to carefully study Zhuan Falun. Some of the principles that he had learned after studying Buddhism for more than ten years were mentioned in the first lecture of Zhuan Falun. He also found in the book many answers to questions he had had all his life. Subsequently all the illnesses he suffered, including stomach and kidney diseases, shoulder inflammation, and the pain of his fractured spine, disappeared, and his moral level improved, too. His family witnessed the amazing changes, and they all began cultivating in Falun Gong.
On December 9th, 2008, Wang Shuxiang, head of the Domestic Security Division of Yongji County, along with Zhu Zhaohong, head of the police station of Xiyang Town and a police officer, broke into Mr. Liu's home, confiscated the Falun Gong books, Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution, a TV set, a high-frequency antenna connector, and much more. They arrested Mr. Liu and his daughter and son and took them to a detention centre in Yongji County, where they were held for 15 days. His daughter was then released. They threatened Mr. Liu and his son that they would be taken to a forced labour camp unless they gave them 20,000 yuan. His family had to pay.
After Mr. Liu and his son returned home, they were regularly harassed by officers from the police station in Xiyang Town. Mr. Liu, his daughter, and his son had to flee their home and become homeless to avoid further persecution.
Wang Shuxiang, head of the Domestic Security Division of Yongji County, kept the 20,000 yuan. Other officials, including Zhu Zhaohong, head of the police station of Xiyang Town, didn't get a penny, so they decided to arrest Mr. Liu and his son and daughter again.
At 4:00 a.m. one day in April 2009, Mr. Liu Ji and his son, Liu Fengyu, were arrested at home and taken to the forced labour camp in Jiutai Yinmahe by Zhu Zhaohong (former head of the police station in Xiyang Town), along with the head of the Domestic Security Division, and other officers.
