Retired Professor from Chengdu City Jailed for Talking to People about Falun Gong Outside a Courthouse

Ms. Tang Yuan, a 67-year-old Falun Gong practitioner from Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, is a retired associate professor from the Central Culture Management Cadre College. On April 29th, she was talking to people about Falun Gong outside the courthouse where practitioner Chen Changyuan was being tried. She was later arrested near Fangcao Street Police Substation. Her home was searched, as well.

When she was physically examined at the detention centre, it was found out that Ms. Tang Yuan had very high blood pressure, so the detention centre refused to take her. The police in charge of the case said that his supervisor gave clear orders for her not to be released and that her family was not allowed to bail her out. Ms. Tang Yuan is still jailed at the Chengdu City Detention Centre. The Gaoxin District Procurator approved her arrest.

On the day when Chen Changyuan was tried, other practitioners was arrested outside the court. Chen Changyuan's elder brother and sister-in-law, Mr Xie Deqing, and his wife Yu Qinfang, and another practitioner were also arrested. Xie Deqing later died in police custody after being detained at the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre for over twenty days.
