1. Police from Guang'an City Sentence an Eighty-year-old Man
Mr. Xu Renwu, 80, lives in the southern area of Guang'an City. His wife Huang Zhihui, is 75 years old. Because the couple had persisted in practising Falun Gong and informing people about the persecution of Falun Gong and dispelling the state propaganda attacking the practice, they were persecuted by the police of Guang'an City. Mr. Xu was sentenced to three years in prison while Ms. Huang was sentenced to three and a half years.
On the afternoon of March 14th, 2009, Mr. Xu was putting up posters exposing the persecution of Falun Gong in New Xixi City and was arrested. The policed searched him and took away his key. The police then used the key to get into Mr. Xu's home. They searched his home and took his computers, materials exposing the persecution of Falun Gong and over ten thousand yuan1 in cash, along with his personal bank book. They did not provide a list of everything they confiscated. The police then detained Mr. Xu.
Mr. Xu's wife Huang Zhihui wasn't home when Mr. Xu was arrested. On the third day after Mr. Xu's unwarranted arrest, Ms. Huang went to deliver some clothing to her husband and was forcibly detained by police officer Zhang Qiang. The police said that they needed to investigate her for a few days, yet they still have not released her. Mr. Xu and Ms. Huang are currently detained in the Chengbei Detention Centre in Guang'an City. Their relatives requested to meet with them and bring them some extra clothing but Zhang Qiang said that they were not allowed to see the couple due to orders from above.
2. Lei Xinglian Was Sentenced to Eight Years
Ms. Lei Xinglian, 58, is the relative of an elementary school teacher in Baishi Town of Guang'an City. Ms. Lei's husband, Wang Jiafu is an elementary school teacher. More than ten years ago, Ms, Lei's only son died in a car accident while working in another province. The son's death brought much sorrow to his parents. Ms. Lei and her husband later started to practise Falun Gong. They regained health and their sorrow eased for the loss of their son. After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started persecuting Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Lei and her husband went to Beijing to appeal for the good name of Falun Gong and were detained. Ms. Lei was sentenced twice to forced labour. In July 2001, Ms. Lei was sentenced by the police of Guang'an City for two years of forced labour. Her husband was forced to become homeless and lived with money earned through hard labour.
Wu Nianping, the former Chinese Communist Party secretary of Baishi Town, withheld and stole Wang's pension. In 2003, Wang and Lei returned home. Lei demanded that the current CCP secretary Zeng Ping and the secretary of the Political and Legal Committee, Zhou Shihua return his pension but Zeng and Zhou refused to return it. In order to continue seizing Wang's pension, they colluded with the police and once again arrested Ms. Lei. They sentenced her to three years of forced labour. Ms.Wang was once again forced to become homeless.
In late June 2008, the Guang'an City National Security Police colluded with 610 Office2 agents and arrested Lei Xinglian and several other Falun Gong practitioners at a wedding. Lei was detained at the Guang'an Detention Center and was persecuted for more than a month. She was sent to Yili City in the Xinjiang region before the Olympic Games. 3. Persecution Endured by Deng Deyu from Fangpinp Township in Guang'an City
Ms. Deng Deyu, in her sixties, is a Falun Gong practitioner in Wufang Village, Fangping Township of Guang'an City. Over the past nine years, she has been arrested and persecuted many times by the police of Guang'an City for her persistence in practising Falun Gong and appealing against the persecution of Falun Gong. She was put into brainwashing sessions and her home was also ransacked. She was recently again arrested by the police.
At about 1:00 p.m. on April 25th, 2009, the police from Guang'an came to Huaying City and arrested Deng, who was residing in her son's home. At the same time, the police confiscated some Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution.
On July 3rd, 2000, the CCP members in the government of Fangping Township searched the homes of Falun Gong practitioners in various villages. They confiscated Falun Gong books from their homes. On July 5th, the police again searched the homes of Falun Gong practitioners. They casually imposed charges and detained two Falun Gong practitioners. On July 11th, the police colluded with local government officials and arrested ten Falun Gong practitioners and sent them to a brainwashing centre. The practitioners were detained there for twenty-six days. On the next day (July 12th) after the initial arrest, the police ransacked the homes of the practitioners. They stole food, cattle, farm tools, furniture, and a large amount of money, and they provided no list of what they took. The police handcuffed Deng Deyu and forced her to open the door to her home. The police stole about four hundred kilograms of yellow wheat, one television set, one fan and one washing machine. This property had a value of about two thousand yuan. They also locked her in a four square-meter small room in front of the school and physically tortured her.
One day in 2004, officials from the village colluded with the police and ransacked Deng's home. Deng's home was a total mess after the ransacking. The police also brutally beat her for about two hours. Since December 2003, 610 Office agents from Guang'an, the National Security Police of Guang'an, and police from other police stations have posted fliers all over town that slandered Falun Gong. They also arrested Falun Gong practitioners on a mass scale. Over one hundred practitioners were arrested and persecuted. Deng Deyu and her daughter Hu Xiaocui were among the arrested. Ms. Hu had been forced to undergo "re-education" through forced labour twice by the police of Guang'an City.
Note
1. "Yuan" is the Chinese currency; 500 yuan is equal to the average monthly income of an urban worker in China.
2. "The 610 office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.
