Ms. Liu Yuhua Severely Beaten Over 50 Times in Detention

Since 2003, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Yuhua has been imprisoned in a brainwashing centre for a total of two years, and was beaten on at least 50 occasions.

At around 10:00 p.m. on September 30th, 2001, policemen from the Qianan National Security team, including Wang Shiwu (who died in February of 2009) and Ha Fulong led other officers and broke into Liu Yuhua's house. They arrested her and confiscated her possessions and home. After she was taken to the security bureau, Ha Fulong slapped her. After his hands started to hurt, he used books and even shoes to strike her. Liu Yuhua's mouth was full of blood. Ha Fulong then used a rope to whip her face. He even forced her to swallow the blood in her mouth. Then Wang Shiwu used electric batons to shock her all over her body. After being tortured for over 4 hours, she was imprisoned in the detention centre of Qianan City for over a year. She was extorted out of 1,700 yuan¹, then released.

In November 2002, after being home for only two months, policemen from the national security team arrested her again and imprisoned her in the Qianan detention centre. She was then transferred to the brainwashing centre after two months in the detention centre. The staff at the brainwashing centre includes people from the public security bureau, security companies, public heath organizations, educational organizations, procuratorate, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) schools, and the bureau of transportation. During her two-year imprisonment, she suffered at least 50 severe beatings, under the command of Yang Yulin, head of the 610 Office² . Ren Xiaoqing beat Liu Yuhua over 10 times; Peng Zhidong at least seven times; Zhang Ziqun twice; Zhang Yu twice, and almost all the remaining staff participated.

Once in the winter, Zhang Yu and Zhang Ziqun forced Liu Yuhua to stand in the yard beginning at 7:00 a.m., for four to five hours. Her body became stiff and she could not move.

The brainwashing centre staff also divided and ate the food brought by her family, including peanuts, pies with meat, oranges, etc.

During that period of time, practitioners Liu Yuhua, Zhang Liqin, Zhou Xiuxiao, and Wang Guihua, also suffered persecution, including sleep deprivation for three consecutive days and nights.

2. "The 610 office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.
