On about November 25th, 2009, Mr. Lv Zhenjiang, a Falun Gong practitioner from Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province, was not allowed to go to sleep and was brutally beaten by four inmates incarcerated with him in the Mudanjiang City Prison. Mr. Lv's head was seriously injured and he had to be sent to the First Hospital in Mudanjiang City for treatment to a long cut.
In June 2009, officials from Mudanjiang Prison started a new round of persecution of practitioners. The guards and the inmates, instigated by prison officials, cruelly beat and tortured practitioners mentally and physically. For example, Wang Yong, the head of the 14th Monitoring District, used two electric batons to shock practitioner Mr. Li Haifeng. The practitioners were not allowed to go to bed and were ordered to write a guarantee statement to renounce Falun Gong.
Mudanjiang Prison has a total of 22 monitoring districts. The prisoners in 18 districts had been working from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., seven days a week, until October 1st, 2007, when the time was changed to 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. In fact, they usually work until 9:00 p.m. and are not given any protective safety gear.
As early as 2004, Mudanjiang Prison held more than 10 Falun Gong practitioners, and the prison authorities tortured them severely. Mr. Lv Zhenjiang was one of them. The guards tried to force the practitioners to change their belief by putting them in a training team; they were treated inhumanly. Several people had to share one bed, and they weren't allowed to use the toilet or drink water. Other inmates monitored the practitioners' every word and deed and also beat them. The living conditions were horrible and parasites like lice were common. The practitioners were also coerced to work overtime, often until midnight, and were not given enough food. On the contrary, prison officials gave the actual criminals too much to eat so that they often could not eat it all and were often drained.
In August 2004, in an attempt to forcibly "transform" [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] practitioners, the guards ordered inmates to talk to practitioners in turn to deprive them of sleep for six consecutive days. The practitioners protested by going on a hunger strike. The guards responded with violence to stop the hunger strikers. Because the practitioners shouted, "Falun Gong is good," their mouths were sealed and they suffered from more serious beatings. Some practitioners were locked up in small cells, a more severe form of mental torment. Practitioners were also not allowed to meet with their relatives or call their families.
Those who mistreated practitioners most severely were: Ding Xuezhong, the captain of the guards; Zhuang Yixin, the political instructor; and Tang Xiaohui ,Chen Zhanfeng, Si Haitao, Jiang Jun, Yu Kechang, Zhang Dazhi, and others, the heads of Monitoring District No.8.
Tang Xiaohui and Chen Zhanfeng, District 8 officials, personally beat practitioners brutally. For example, on November 4th, 2005, both officials beat Mr. Guan Wenlong in front of more than 300 prisoners and more than a dozen guards. On November 17th, he locked Mr. Guang in a cell and told other inmates to torture him. Tang Xiaohui was the leader, and his subordinates, Wu Xuejun, Shi Zhiche, and others, also abused practitioners badly. Wu Xuejun even bribed inmate Guan Zhenli with wine, cigarettes, better food, and the use of a mobile phone and told him to torture practitioners. Therefore, practitioners Mr. Lv Zhenjiang, Mr. Guan Wenlong, Mr. Huang Guodong, and others suffered from much worse torment frequently.
Mr. Lv Zhenjiang has had to be taken to a hospital due to severe injuries, but so far there are no details on his condition.
