Your Excellency,
Kindly allow me to bring your attention to the brutal persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in China. Although Falun Gong is a peaceful, spiritual practice without any political agenda, the Chinese President Jiang Zemin banned the practice on July 20th, 1999.
Most analysts attributed the ban to the popularity of the practice, the exploitation of Falun Gong as a scapegoat by Jiang Zemin and totalitarian paranoia. During these almost 3 years of persecution, Falun Gong practitioners have proven that they are peaceful. In fact they are good people who do traditional qigong exercises to stay healthy and believe in the principle of Truth-Compassion-Forbearance. How can they ever harm any government?
Currently at least 410 practitioners have been tortured to death or killed, over 100,000 have been illegally arrested and detained, more than 500 have been sentenced to prison terms of up to 18 years and about 1,000 have been forced into mental hospitals.
The Chinese mental hospitals use various inhuman “treatments” on Falun Gong practitioners, including physical torture, psychological abuse, and illegal use of sedatives and anti-psychotic drugs, which has been condemned by World Psychiatric Association.
The whole state-owned media and many government agencies in China have been mobilised to fabricate lies about Falun Gong both in China and abroad. The European Union has warned China against using the fight against terrorism to crack down on dissidents and Falun Gong practitioners.
I beg your Excellency to express concern for the Falun Gong practitioners in China during the coming visit of the Chinese president. A few words from your Excellency could save the lives of many innocent people in China.
