Ms. Yuan Yongwen in Critical Condition After Two Years of Detention

In April 2008, Ms. Yuan Yongwen, a resident of Qionglai City, Chengdu District, Sichuan Province, was arrested by the Interpol Police Brigade of Qionglai Police Station. She was then sentenced. Since she was detained, she has been in critical condition many times. In December 2009, she was transferred to Sichuan Police General Hospital to serve the rest of her sentence.

Li Quchang of the Second Prison Block at Jianyang Yangma Women's Prison, Policeman He Guanhong of Qionglai Police Station in Kaopeng District, and Yan Shaoyi of Qionglai City National Security Brigade coerced Ms. Yuan's husband, Tang Caiming, to state that she has always suffered from high blood pressure and heart disease, which she never had. They also forced him to take responsibility for everything that happens to Ms. Yuan.

Ms. Yuan Yongwen, 68, is a retired worker of Qionglai Electric Motor Factory. She lived at a Laozhengfu Quarter. After she began practising Falun Gong, she became physically and mentally healthy again. She followed the principles of Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance in her daily life. Solely because of her belief, she has been arrested four times by Chinese Communist Party officials.

On March 26th, 2008, Ms. Yuan was reported to the authorities for talking to people about Falun Gong and the persecution in Qionglai City. Yan Shaoyi of the Qionglai City National Security Brigade, officer He Guanhong of Qionglai Police Station in Kaopeng District, Luo Yan in Kaopeng District of Qionglai City, and over a dozen other people took Ms. Yuan to her home, ransacked it and confiscated Falun Gong books, MP3 players, and other personal items. Several police officers pulled her hair, while other officers held her head and legs, and threw her into a police car, and took her to Qionglai Police Station. That afternoon, Ms. Yuan was sent to Qionglai Detention Centre and detained there for seven months. In mid-October, Qionglai Court House secretly sentenced her to three years of imprisonment. She was then sent to the notorious Jianyang Yangma Women's Prison in Sichuan Province, where she was brutally tortured, and has been in critical condition many times.

The prison authorities tortured Ms. Yuan and coerced her husband to assist in their "transformation" [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] effort. Under intense pressure, Ms. Yuan was forced her to write a guarantee statement promising to give up Falun Gong practice. In December 2009, Ms. Yuan was in critical condition and had to be transferred to Sichuan Police General Hospital where her persecution continues.
