Every year around the holidays, one tends to miss their family and friends even more. On the Chinese New Year of 2010, all Falun Gong practitioners in Yongdeng, Lanzhou City, Gansu Province, miss their fellow practitioners, Ms. Ren Shuzhen and Mr. Wang Youyjiang, and all the other practitioners who are still in prison.
Ms. Ren Shuzhen, born in 1940, was a gynaecologist prior to her retirement. She had been suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, gynaecological disorders, and many other diseases for a long time before she started to practise Falun Gong. In 1998, Ms. Ren started practising and changing herself to become a better person by following the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. After several years of practising, all her illnesses had disappeared. She experienced the magic and wonder of Falun Gong first hand. However, since July 20th, 1999, this amazing and wonderful practice has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party.
Ms. Ren appealed on three different occasions in Beijing. On one occasion she walked a long distance to Beijing to explain the facts about the practice to the government. Unfortunately however, she was detained on all three instances. She was in a forced labour camp for a year in 2001, and was beaten as well as abused arbitrarily by the police. Once, for refusing to write articles slandering Falun Gong, she was beaten severely for more than 20 days. As a result of this torture, she could not turn over in bed. She developed a constant ringing in her ears and also became incontinent of urine and faeces. The prison guards also hung her up suspended in mid air by handcuffs many times for between 20 minutes and one hour. They only put her down when she was on the verge of death. They kept torturing her to make her try to give up her practice.
Ms. Ren was arrested by officers from Yongdeng Police Department in May 2002 for talking to people about the practice. She was then sent to a brainwashing centre in Gongjiawan, Lanzhou. In the brainwashing centre, there was a collaborator assigned to every practitioner to make sure they didn't sleep or even get to rest. They also forced each one to watch TV programmes and read materials that slandered Falun Gong.
In June 2003, the police started to torture practitioners even more. Policemen Zhang Kegang, Zhao Jian and Liu Xiaofeng, hung up Ms. Ren on an iron door for 14 days straight. Sometimes only the tip of her toe was touching the floor, and sometimes only the ball of her feet touched the floor. They did not let her eat or drink for a long time. When she had to relieve herself, she had to do it into her clothes while still being hung up. In the end, her wrists became festered and swollen. She also experienced oedema in her entire body along with her blood pressure being really high. The handcuffs she was being held up by broke, so they brought out a new pair to use on her. Ms. Ren, already more than 60 years old, couldn't take this torture anymore, so the police sent her home only because she unwillingly wrote a "guarantee statement," to no longer practise. They furthermore cut her off from all her financial resources for four years after she was released.
On May 30th, 2007, because of her determination to explain the truth about the persecution to people, the police of the Yongdeng Police Department ransacked Ms. Ren's home and stole all the leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong she had.
On August 10th, 2007, Ms. Ren was once again arrested by the personnel from the Yongdeng Police Department, including the police chief and three other policemen. On September 24th she was then taken to Yongdeng Court. The court didn't have any "real" evidence to use against her, so they then made up excuses and sent her to a forced labour camp for three years. As of today, Ms. Ren is still being held in prison against her will.
Mr. Wang Youjiang, 38, was a major in the Ministry of Information and Communication in the Lanzhou Army Department. He started practising Falun Gong in 1998. After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started persecuting Falun Gong in 1999, Mr. Wang appealed in Beijing several times, and on all those occasions he was arrested. He appealed again in the end of December 2000 and was arrested at the Zhongwei Railway Station, Ningxia for a day, then was taken to Taoshuping Detention Centre in Lanzhou for a week.
Mr. Wang was arrested again on March 6th, 2001, and detained in Xiguoyuan Detention Centre. He was beaten by the police and sent to a forced labour camp while being deprived of sleep for many days. He was so feeble and weak due to being tortured so harshly that when he was transferred to Siergou Detention Centre, he could not even stand up. On July 3rd in the same year, he was "sentenced" to ten years in prison without any kind of court session. He was sent to Dashaping (Kangtai) prison hospital, because he was in critical condition from the torture he suffered and from the hunger strike he went on while in prison. Mr. Wang was sent immediately to prison when he felt just a little bit better. His hair had started turning white due to the long term torture that he suffered.
It has been almost 9 years since Mr. Wang was arrested and sent to Dashaping Prison in Lanzhou. Because of his deteriorated health due to torture, his family tried to take him to the hospital in 2006. Even though the Lanzhou government finally agreed for him to be taken to the hospital, the Yongdeng Police, however, wouldn't let him go and even bragged about arresting him again if he was released.
In August 2008 his family asked the police if they could see Mr. Wang. However, using the Olympics as an excuse, the police denied every request that the family made. Even more, police director, Xiao Bin, told the family they could not visit him for at least a half a year, because he said that Mr. Wang called him " a wolf in a human skin." Because of this, Xiao Bin, had him imprisoned in a small cell twice (for 15 days each time) and would not be able to meet with his family members for six months. Recently, Mr. Wang's brother just had a kidney operation, and now his parents have gotten older. They tried to visit their son in prison, coming all the way from Yongdeng to Lanzhou, but were forbidden to see him. To this day they have not been able to see their son.
Mr. Wang's family members call out to the world to let others know about Mr. Wang's situation and many others like him. They ask to help stop this persecution, by letting as many people as possible know about Mr. Wang and all the other Falun Gong practitioners who are still being persecuted.
