Ms. Wang Pingrui is a Falun Gong practitioner living in Nongan County, Jilin Province. Because of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) persecution of Falun Gong practitioners, she was forced to leave school six months before the college entrance examinations.
Using the upcoming Olympic Games as an excuse, in early 2008, the CCP intensified the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. In order to elude the most recent round of persecution, Ms. Wang and her mother (who does not practise Falun Gong) left their home and travelled to Baicheng City, Jilin Province. But even there, the local police found her. Her mother was roughed up and accused of leading a Falun Gong group. Ms. Wang's mother was released after being detained for fifteen days.
Ms. Wang was sentenced to two years of forced labour and held in the Fifth Ward of the Women's Forced Labour Camp of Jilin Province (also known as Heizuizi Forced Labour Camp). The warden ordered her family to pay 2,000 yuan1 for a check up of her mental state.
In July 2008, the camp authorities allowed her family a second visit. The family noticed deep marks from handcuffs on her wrists.
Upon her arrival at the labour camp, Ms. Wang shouted, "Falun Gong is good!" She called out to other detained practitioners, "Do not work for them!" In retaliation, the prison guards cuffed her hands and fastened her feet with leather belts to a bed for six months and left her without any food or water for a long period of time. Chief prison guard Wang Limei shocked the bottoms of her feet with an electric baton and her feet were seriously injured. Those involved in the abuse include prisoners Yu Xiuming, Li Gongju and Zhu Liren. They beat her with filled water bottles, whipped her with leather belts, stomped on her chest forcefully and rode on her back. Whenever chief prison guard Xiao Aiqiu was on duty, the three prisoners tortured her without restraint. They pasted some newspaper on the window of Ms. Wang's room to keep other practitioners from seeing what was happening. They did not allow anyone to enter the room and forbade Ms. Wang from seeing her family members.
One night at 9:00 p.m., Ms. Wang protested the abuse. Wang Lihui, the prison guard on duty, called some other prison guards, including Wang Limei, Liu Yinghui and Xiao Aihua to punish her. They tortured her for a long time and then brought her to a prison doctor. The doctor injected some unknown drugs into her body, causing her to lose consciousness and fall to the ground. She was then cuffed to a bed. Two days later, Ms. Wang received a two-month extension of her term. The punishment was announced by Xu, a commissioner from the administrative section. Other practitioners Ms. Wang Weixiu, Ms. Zhang Junying, Ms. Xu Cuihua and Ms. Gong Xiuying, also received extensions of their terms, of two to ten days, because they had tried to prevent the prison guards from torturing Ms. Wang. When Ms. Wang was released from confinement after many days, she could not walk properly due to intense pain in her legs and feet. When she walked, she could not straighten her legs. She was also denied dinner several times.
When Ms. Wang tried to encourage a practitioner who was brought into the labour camp, the guards confined her to a bed in a storage room with her hands and feet locked up, and put a basin under her for her to relieve herself. We don't know how long she was tortured in this position, but she was heard yelling out from being shocked with electric batons.
