The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) personnel in Putuo District, Shanghai have persecuted Falun Gong practitioners for years. The following documents the persecution suffered by Ms. Gu Jihong and Ms. Lu Xiuli in the local area.
Ms. Gu lives at Huangling Road, Putuo District, Shanghai. Before practising Falun Gong, she had severe heart disease and other illnesses. After she started practising, all of her illnesses disappeared.
Since 1999, Ms. Gu has been repeatedly persecuted. In June 2000, she was sentenced to three years in prison. In June 2005, she was sent to a forced labour camp for a one year term.
On March 1st, 2008, Ms. Gu Jianmin, Ms. Gu Jihong's sister, was arrested by officers from the Dongyangjing Police Station. On March 13th, 2008, she was tortured to death. When her husband saw her body, her eyes were open wide and her mouth was bloody. Since the policemen were afraid that their crime was exposed, they dispatched personnel to monitor Ms. Gu Jihong around the clock, tap her phone and harass her at home.
On July 26th, 2008, Ms. Gu was arrested because the personnel of the Putuo 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) worried that she would appeal for justice for her sister during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. So, on November 19th, 2008, the Putuo Court sentenced her to three years in prison.
Ms. Lu Xiuli lives at Zichang Road, Putuo District, Shanghai. Before practising Falun Gong, she suffered from cancer. After she started practising, the cancer disappeared without treatment. The doctor who followed up on her condition said that most cancer patients who underwent surgery at the same time as Lu Xiuli had died; only Ms. Lu Xiuli was still alive and she radiated health. Ms. Lu Xiuli earned her new life by practising Falun Gong. She wanted to tell people how wonderful Falun Gong is. However, she was brutally persecuted.
Before February 2009, Ms. Lu was detained six times. In June 2009 was her seventh arrest. In October 2008, she was detained in a mental hospital. 610 Office personnel forced her to write a "guarantee statement" giving up practising Falun Gong.
