Facts About the Persecution of Practitioners at the Xinxiang Medical School in Henan Province

It was November 1997 when Falun Gong spread to the Xinxiang Medical School and many teachers and student started to cultivate Falun Gong. They became healthier after studying the Falun Gong teachings and doing the exercises.

On July 20th, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party started to severely persecute Falun Gong. The director of the medical school, Li Rongtang, and supervisors named Mao Lanzhi, Lang Faxuan and other related staff of the attached hospital, actively participated in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Mao Lanzhi personally arranged how the university students who practised Falun Gong would be persecuted - disallowing them to go to classes, locking them in a room, monitoring them, putting them into brainwashing classes, and they even wrote articles promoting how they did their work transforming [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] practitioners.

The following summary briefly describes the persecution experienced by teaching staff and university students of the school.

Mr. Li Fujun, over 46, was an associate professor and had been awarded the First Prize in teaching. On the morning of July 21st, 1999, the medical school co-operated with the police of the local Police station to arrest him from his residence at the Xinxiang Medical School and take him to the Xinxiang City Detention Centre. On July 26th, 1999, the related staff again co-operated with police to break into Mr. Li's home and search it. They confiscated Falun Gong books. His 11-year-old son had to be taken care of by his neighbour.

In October 1999, Mr. Li went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong and was arrested. Li Rongtang appeared at the General Meeting of the School Staff and handcuffed Mr. Li. The police of the Public Security Bureau announced the so-called "arrest". The supervisors of the medical school brought Mr. Li's wife, Pan Yinjuan, to the meeting and humiliated her. Mr. Li was sentenced to four years imprisonment and he lost his job at the Xinxiang Medical School. In October 2003, Mr. Li returned to the school that he left four years earlier. He asked Li Rongtang many times to resume his job, however, the school made things difficult for him, and Mr. Li was forced to leave home and go to the south to find labour jobs.

Mr. Yue Hanjun, 45, was a scholar who had returned from overseas. After July 20th, 1999, Mr. Yue's job and salary were suspended for three months and he was monitored 24 hours a day by the staff from the school. He was forced to give up practising Falun Gong. The school then dismissed him from his section chief position. At the beginning of 2000, the supervisors of the school, Li Rongtang and Lang Faxuan, worked together with Xinxiang City Public Security to sentence Mr. Yue to a forced labour camp. In May 2006, Li Rongtang, together with the corrupt Party Secretary named Zhou Tiexiang, co-operated with the spies of Xinxiang City National Security Bureau to arrest Mr. Yue and sentenced him to four years of imprisonment. He later lost his job at the Xinxiang Medical School.

Ms. Jia Mingxia, 45, was an employee of the Finance Section of the Medical School. After July 20th, 1999, she was dismissed from her job and was kept under surveillance. Ms. Jia was removed from her post as the section chief and person in charge of the office of the Construction Bank. Her salary was suspended for three months. The school tried to force her to give up practising Falun Gong. She was harassed many times and was harmed both physically and mentally.

Mr. Yao Kaisheng, over 50, was an employee of the Audio-Visual Education Programme of the School. After July 20th, 1999, he was suspended from his section chief position and his remuneration was stopped. He was forced to give up practising Falun Gong, harassed many times and was harmed severely both physically and mentally.

Mr. Li Fayun, 47, was the assistant to the head of the school library. After July 20th, 1999, he was removed from his position and his remuneration for being section chief and assistant to the head of the library was stopped. He was forced to give up practising Falun Gong and divorce his wife, Zhao Qiaomin, who also practised Falun Gong. He then moved away from the province to look for a job.

Ms. Xue Xiaoqing, 45, a lecturer who taught mathematics, was an excellent teacher. After July 20th, 1999, she was suspended from her position and her salary was stopped for three months as she was kept under surveillance. The corrupt Party Secretary, Niu Ruiying, forced Ms. Xue's over-80-year-old mother to go to the school and coerce Ms. Xue to give up cultivation. Niu Ruiying forced Ms. Xue to write reports on her thoughts over 20 times. Ms. Xue could not tolerate the torture, both physically and mentally, and was forced to leave the school and leave the province to look for a job.

Mr. Xu Faling, over 40, was a doctor at the No. 2 Hospital attached to the Medical School. After July 20th, 1999, he was removed from his job. The ex-Party Secretary Yang Wenliang collaborated with the Xinxiang City Public Security Bureau and sentenced Mr. Xu twice to a forced labour camp. They also disallowed Mr. Xu to practise as a doctor, forcing him to do a labourer's job in the laundry room.

Ms. Zhao Qiaomin, 47, was the supervising nurse of the No. 3 Hospital attached to the School. After July 20th, 1999, the school and the No. 3 Hospital attached to the School removed her from her job and put her under surveillance. They also jailed her at a mental health hospital and persecuted her. At the beginning of 2000, the school worked together with Xinxiang City Suburban Public Security Bureau and sent Ms. Zhao to a forced labour camp.

Ms. Pan Yinjuan, 48, was the supervising nurse at the No. 3 Hospital attached to the School. After July 20th, 1999, the school and the No. 3 Hospital attached to the School removed her from her job and suspended her salary for three months. The school twice put her under surveillance, and worked together with the police to search her home, confiscating her personal property, including Dafa books and the exercise tapes. In August 2009, when Ms. Pan was working at the registration department of the hospital, she was wrongfully charged. The school forced her to do a labourers job in the laundry room.

Ms. Liu Ling was a grade 97 student of the Xinxiang Medical School. After July 20th, 1999, she was suspended from school. Mao Lanzhi organised the torture of Ms. Liu and her Falun Gong classmates at the brainwashing class to transform them. On October 28th, 1999, Ms. Liu went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong and was sentenced to a forced labour camp by the school and the Xinxiang Suburban Public Security Bureau. Ms. Liu was just 20 years old at the time.

Mr. Wu Guanyi was a grade 98 student of the Xinxiang Medical School. After July 20th, 1999, he was suspended from the school. Mao Lanzhi organised the torture of Mr. Wu and his Falun Gong classmates, attempting to brainwash and transform them. On October 28th, 1999, Mr. Wu went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. As a result he was dismissed by the school. The school worked together with the Xinxiang Suburban Police Station and detained him for 15 days.

Mr. Zhu Qihai, was a grade 97 student at Xinxiang Medical School. After July 20th, 1999, Mr. Zhu was suspended from the class. Mao Lanzhi decided to control Mr. Zhu and other Falun Gong practitioners to brainwash and torture them mentally so as to forcefully "transform" them. In November 1999, Mr. Zhu went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong, however, the school dismissed him. The supervisors worked together with the Xinxiang Suburban Public Security Bureau and detained him for 15 days.
