After Persistent Efforts, Family Finally Allowed to See Brutally Mistreated Loved One at Masanjia Forced Labour Camp

Mr. Sun Yi is a native of Xian City. He was arrested by officials of the Beijing 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) prior to the Beijing Olympics. Later, they transferred him to the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp in Liaoning Province. His family's request to visit him was rejected by camp officials.

His family discovered from the Minghui website (Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net) on March 9th, 2010, that Sun Yi has been brutally tortured for the last two years in the notorious Masanjia Forced Labour Camp. In order to see Sun Yi and to prevent anything unfortunate from happening, his family hired a lawyer and went to the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp. They requested to see Sun Yi. By law, this request should haven been granted.

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) police's backward logic: "If we followed the law, wouldn't this place be like a market?"

It was visitor's day on March 25th, and three guards were present in the visitation room --Su Jufeng (Badge #2108597) and two other guards (Badges #2108111 and #2108126). When they heard that Sun Yi's family wanted to see him, one of them told them, "Sun Yi didn't behave well, he's not allowed to see you!"

The lawyer at the scene took out the "Labour Education Regulations," pointed out the articles and said to the guards, "It's illegal to prohibit visitors; as the people's police, you should strictly abide by the law!" Another guard (Badge #2108194) blurted out, "If we followed the law, wouldn't this place be like a [chaotic] market?" The lawyer and Sun Yi's family members were astonished.

His family and the lawyer went to the Miscellaneous Services Department to file a complaint, and Management Director Ma Jishan agreed to allow the family to see Sun Yi the next day.

Chief of the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp: "Death is no big deal!"

Through difficult negotiations, Sun Yi's sister was able to see him on the morning of March 26th, 2010, through a thick piece of soundproof glass, but could not talk to him. The meeting room was monitored by almost ten guards, creating an atmosphere of terror. Sun Qing saw her elder brother, who was being helped by others as he could barely walk. He no longer looked like a young and strong person, he looked pale, and seemingly had no energy to talk.

If they continued to detain him, it would be questionable whether or not he could survive. When his family brought up this concern, Gao Hongchang, the forced labour camp chief said, "Death is no big deal!"

Since Sun Yi's condition was serious, his family and their lawyer again went that afternoon to the Miscellaneous Services Branch to raise their concern about his situation. The man in charge, Ma Jishan, was very rude and kept pushing the family out the door, while questioning them about their attitude toward Falun Gong.

A righteous fight for human rights

As there was no action taken by the Miscellaneous Services Branch, on March 27th, Sun Yi's family presented an indictment letter to the Disciplinary and Prosecuting Department, requesting that they stop harming the victim. In addition, they requested that his visitation rights be upheld, that they investigate the dereliction of their duty, and that they provide sufficient medical treatment.

At 6:00 p.m. on April 6th, 2010, Sun Yi's family and their lawyer went to the Disciplinary and Prosecuting Department to learn the outcome, but they weren't able to find the department heads.

The next day, April 7th, they went to Liaoning Province's Forced Labour Education Committee and delivered a copy of the indictment letter, and afterward they went to the Provincial Judiciary Department. That afternoon, the provincial Forced Labour Education Committee gave permission for a direct relative to meet with Sun Yi. When officials of the First Camp at Masanjia Forced Labour Camp received instructions from their superiors on April 8th at 2:10 p.m., they arranged for Sun Yi to meet with his younger sister alone.

When she asked him about his maltreatment, Sun Yi looked panic-stricken as he turned his head toward the guards standing nearby. His sister felt pained, but told him loudly, "Don't be afraid! We have hired a lawyer for you. Who has tortured you? Just tell it like it is!"

It was obvious that this meeting between brother and sister greatly encouraged Sun, who had been seriously tortured, and also shocked the police officers and guards in the forced labour camp. The police officer who had rudely refused the request of Mr. Sun's family and was also eavesdropping on their phone conversation during their visit came out after the visit was over and asked, "What did Sun Yi say about me, what was his impression of me?"

Plain-clothed guards in the forced labour camp interfere with the lawyer's collection of evidence

One day after Mr. Sun's sister had visited him, on April 9th, his family and their lawyer went to Masanjia's first camp officials, asking them to immediately investigate his brutal mistreatment and to collect evidence. Gao Hongchang, the forced labour camp chief, gave them a dirty look and refused to co-operate on the grounds of having to get approval from his superiors. The lawyer and the family thus once again went to the management department for approval. Unexpectedly, when they got to the forced labour camp management hall, they were violently pushed by a group of plain-clothed police officers, causing the lawyer to almost fall off of the concrete staircase. While Sun Yi's younger sister was trying to reason with them, the police officers threatened to handcuff her to silence her.
