The Shihe District 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) in Xinyang City directed police officers from the Domestic Security Brigade to arrest Ms. Liu Xia while teaching at her school, at 11:00 a.m. on November 10th, 2009. Five police officers dragged Ms. Liu into a car without giving a reason for the arrest. When Ms. Liu called out that the police were abducting her, she was charged with "viciously attacking the Party and government." She was tried in court in January 2010. Ms. Liu is being held in the First Detention Centre of Xinyang City, awaiting sentencing.
Eleven Years of Persecution
After the persecution started on July 20th, 1999, Ms. Liu travelled to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong in November. Officers from the Domestic Security Brigade took her back to Xinyang City and held her for 45 days.
On April 21st, 2000, Ms. Liu went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong again and was imprisoned.
The 610 Office transferred Ms. Liu to Zhengzhou City and subjected her to brainwashing in 2000.
During the 2001 New Year season, officials from the 610 Office arrested her at home and subjected her again to brainwashing in an effort to force her to renounce Falun Gong.
Someone reported Ms. Liu for distributing Falun Gong materials, and officers from the Domestic Security Brigade arrested her in the summer of 2002. She was tortured in the First Detention Centre of Xinyang City. Officers from the 610 Office and the Shihe District Domestic Security Brigade transferred her to the Second Detention Centre, where she was again tortured. She was released after being held for several months.
In 2002, officers from the 610 Office twice tried to brainwash Ms. Liu.
The Shihe District 610 Office directed officers from the Domestic Security Brigade to arrest Ms. Liu Xia and hold her in a detention centre in 2004. Several months later, in July, she was sentenced to a three-year prison term. She was released on probation.
Constant Police Monitoring
The 610 Office ordered school officials to restrict her freedom, but she managed to escape and leave town to avoid further persecution. The 610 Office accused and punished the school principal and administration for allowing her to escape.
The 610 Office threatened and monitored Ms. Liu's family members and ordered the police to find her. In early 2005, Ms. Liu was found in Guangdong Province and taken to the Xinxiang City Women's Prison.
Attempting to force Ms. Liu to renounce Falun Gong, the guards ordered Ms. Liu's cellmates to take off their clothes despite the cold winter. The guards blamed Ms. Liu for this, inciting the cellmates to mistreat her. Ms. Liu was released in December 2008.
