Secret Trial Held for Four Falun Gong Practitioners in Huadian City, Jilin Province

On May 25th-26th, 2010, a secret two-day trial of four Falun Gong practitioners was held in a Huadian City Court. A lawyer defending Falun Gong practitioners was insulted by a policeman during the process. The family members who came to court to inquire about the proceedings were also arrested by police and their homes were ransacked.

On the morning of May 25th, dozens of police vehicles gathered at the Huadian City Court, including cars of National Security Brigade, 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), the local Procuratorate, Justice Bureau, local police, traffic police, and even two fire engines. The purpose of the gathering was to secretly sentence four Falun Gong practitioners to prison. After the trial, they did not officially inform the family members of the practitioners or their lawyers of the outcomes.

It is known that on May 25th Mr. Bai Jingzhi and Ms. Zhou Liping were sentenced, and on May 26th Ms. Li Yumei and Ms. Ma Yunfeng were sentenced. These four Falun Gong practitioners were arrested at Erdaodianzi, Huadian City after being reported on January 11th, 2010. The family of Mr. Bai Jingzhi hired a lawyer, however the lawyer was unreasonably obstructed by the national security team. The police treated him rudely and insulted him.

In the morning on May 25th, the younger sister of Mr. Bai Jingzhi wanted to find out about the trial, so she came to the court. She saw dozens of vehicles and many policemen outside the courthouse. But she could not get in, and was told that the trial was not open to the public.

The next day (May 26th) two younger sisters of Mr. Bai Jingzhi went to the courthouse and they were blocked by people outside the court. They tried to reason with those people, but were confronted with the National Security Team and the 610 Office agents who called over twenty police officers to forcibly arrest them and send them to the Minghua Police Station. Later on these people went to the home of these sisters and ransacked their house and looted their personal belongings. Late at night one of them was released, and another was sent to a detention centre by the Public Security Bureau. A telephone belonging to the two sisters was forcibly seized by Yu Xiaoqiang, who is a member of National Security Team at Huadian City.

Falun Gong practitioner Ma Yunfeng was released one year ago after she was extorted out of ten thousand yuan¹ by a policeman named Chen Baozhi. However the court also forced her to come to trial, and after being falsely accused, the police arrested her again. Now she is detained at the Huadian City Detention Centre.
