Ms. Chen Guang Appeals Seven Year Prison Sentence

After being held in detention for nearly a year, Ms. Chen Guang, 48, from Zibo City, Shandong Province, and an employee of the Zibo City Diesel Engine Plant, was sentenced to seven years in prison on April 14th, 2010. She has appealed, and her case has now been transferred from the Huantai County Court to the Zibo City Intermediate Court. The second trial date is yet to be announced.

Ms. Chen used to suffer from severe kidney problems before she practised Falun Gong, and had sought all types of medical treatments, but to no avail. As Ms. Chen was diligent in her practice and conducted herself according to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, her illness miraculously disappeared, and she became physically and mentally healthy.

Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) senseless persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, Ms. Chen has tried to tell people the facts about Falun Gong and the goodness of the practice based on her own experiences. She subsequently became a target of the CCP's persecution.

Agents from the Huantai County 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) seized Ms. Chen from her home, and ransacked it, at around 6:00 p.m. on May 12th, 2009.

While in detention, Ms. Chen was shocked with electric batons, injected with unknown substances, and denied the use of the toilet.

Officials at the Huantai County Court handed her a seven-year prison term, and did not inform her family.

We hope that the Zibo City Intermediate Court officials will follow their conscience, act fairly and openly with this case, and unconditionally release Ms. Chen.
